World History
Wow, this course always goes so very fast. We are ready to delve into industrialization, imperialism, and World War I. There is a Breakout Box activity that was designed for the industrialization piece. If you are not excited about using it as a Breakout Box, it could be adapted and used in a different way. And this See-Think-Wonder, from New Vision's Social Studies, is a great activator for Imperialism.
Remember, there are multiple-choice questions developed to use for the Unit 7 Assessment.
Civics and Economics
Believe it or not, we are ready to start Economics. Seeing that Thanksgiving is on its way, this activity created by Yanawi Quinones looks at the economics of Thanksgiving.
Some of you choose to build in a once a week EverFi day during the second quarter. If this is something you are doing, remember there are guided notes with reflections created by the Parkland CE crew that can be used.
And, the news has been super kind to CE over the last few weeks. These stories are great ways to have the students apply democratic principles and problem solve real issues related to civics:
Police Responsibility for the Destruction of Personal Property
Obey the White House or Supeopna?
Checks and Balances Regarding the Above Question
What other viewpoints are we missing from this video? How is this an example of partisan politics?
Just be sure to provide a balanced approach when discussing current events.
Remember, there are multiple-choice questions developed to use as part of a Unit 5 assessment.
American History 1
When looking at the abolitionist movement, try to expand beyond those typically connected to the movement. This site will allow you to explore the contributions of the many black abolitionists. Try typing in North Carolina and see what comes up.
Remember, there are M/C questions available to use for the Unit 4 Assessment.
American History 2
This Insert Learning activity looks at Executive Order 9981. You will need to have the Insert Learning Chrome Extention added to view it.
Message from Melissa
Are you ready for the super-fast, it will be over before you know it, quarter?
I appreciate all the hard work you put in each day for your students. The current climate within our state towards education is challenging. Please know that you are valued. Without you, this institution would not exist.
I hope you have a terrific week and enjoy your upcoming long weekend.
Melissa
