KRMS Principal Update

Parent Update
We are officially in our third week of school. Our JumpStart day was a great kick-off for our 7th graders and it was nice to see so many families at our Open House. We have had a good start with our reentry this school year. The students have been working on learning the new routines of middle school, including changing classes, transitions, and of course learning their locker codes.
This year we have changed our schedule to allow for more instructional time within our 5 core classrooms (ELA, Math, Science, ELA, and Social Studies). On Mondays the students meet with each class in what was our traditional model for 45 minutes. However, for the rest of the week, when the core classes meet, they are in class for 75 minutes. This change has limited transitions, improved instructional time, and provides more time for the students to get deeper into their work. Although each schedule has its pros and cons, we feel this will not only support students in this current learning model, but it will also support them in their future transition to the high school level.
A reminder that teams send out emails to families quite frequently and if you are not receiving these, please reach out to your child's team leader so they can add you to their contact list. The include items such as homework, team activities, upcoming events, and other helpful information to be more aware of what is going on with your child here at school.
For our student-athletes, we have opened up our Winter-Sports registration. We offer the following winter sports here at KRMS: Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, basketball, cheerleading, swimming, and wrestling. Information for registration is below, or you can follow the steps from this website: www.kingswoodathletics.org.
This Thursday our students will be off-campus at our annual Team Day where they will be able to work on team building activities. Please look for those permission slips if you haven't already sent them back, or reach out to your child's team leader if you need another permission slip or have any specific questions.
Sincerely,
James A. Reilly
