Trantwood Times
"Captivating Every Student, Every Day!"
Kudos - singing the praises of our staff :)
Kudos to Nancy Lambert for providing directions to turn hard copies into Flipcharts.
Kudos to Persi Charalambous and Patsy Eikenbary for containing the enthusiasm of all of our daycare students who await their van in the foyer. The Office Ladies
Dear Mrs. Metzger,
I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the friendly reception that Claire and I received over the past two days while visiting Trantwood. As a university supervisor, I have the occasion to visit a great number of schools during a given year. I must say that I have not experienced such a welcoming crew like you have in your building in any other! Regardless of where we turned, there was always someone to greet us with a friendly smile and a helping hand.
The people within a school set the tone for the community and it's no wonder that Trantwood has such a fine reputation within the district. Beginning one’s career midyear can be daunting. I have no doubt that Claire will receive all the support that she will need as a Cardinal!
I wish all a restful, festive holiday season. Having been a teacher in the Virginia Beach System, I know first hand how having time to renew and refresh is essential. Thanks again for the opportunity to join your team!
Sincerely,
Jon M. Hanbury

Hour of Code - Continues
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hing on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science and less students are studying it than a decade ago.
As a result of the overwhelming interest in Hour of Code, we will continue to offer this opportunity for students during lunch. Beginning Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, students in grades 1 - 5 will be able to go to the computer lab when done eating to engage in coding. Thank you for supporting your students interest in understanding how technology works.

STEM Site
Kudos to Kindergarten for exploring during collaboration and discovering this awesome STEM site. On this site, they found learning plans that supported their content instruction and were able to begin to answer one of the most important questions that should be answered during collaboration: How will we know they learned it?
Transition from Schoolastic to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
VBCPS is transitioning from Scholastic Testing and Intervention services to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Testing and Intervention services. These changes will not initially impact the operation of any of our programs. However, you will notice a change in the name and the appearance of the assessments. Many additional data reports are available as a result of this change. These can be accessed at this site:

Here are some examples of the changes:
