Academic Excellence

Second Six Weeks

We are about to enter our second six weeks. We are going full force with learning so much in all our classes. Make sure you are providing a list of resources for your students to access while at home. Thank you for making sure every parent receives the Parent Letters for each unit. This is a district expectation that provides customer service for our community.

Thank you for posting great works outside your classroom and on your walls. Showcase your Thinking Maps. When students see that every teacher is using Thinking Maps, it becomes a common language.

We are continuing our Instructional Focus of using rigor and relevance, Quad D moments, and Fundamental 5 in the classrooms every day. Your PLCs are going strong and your focus on the above is showing in student work. Continue to study your data and adjust your plans to meet the learning needs of your students.

The New PSAT

A new presentation has been put together by the College Board concerning the new PSAT.

October 12, 13, and 14

Please meet at the HCTC at 8:30 dressed in comfy clothes and shoes for a great day of learning and planning!!! We will focus this day on fragile students and the best techniques to see success and then spend the afternoon working on lessons with Quad D moments.

Please register in Eduphoria for Tuesday, October 13. You may decide which specific focus areas you would like to attend.

October 14 is a major testing day. We need all staff available. Let us know if you have any needs or concerns. We are here to help!!

College and Career Center:

The TCC Cornerstone Program provides opportunities for highly motivated students to become a part of an intellectually stimulating community. A wide range of students can achieve a high level of academic excellence and increase their opportunities for scholarships at four-year institutions. For more information regarding the Cornerstone program visit https://www.tccd.edu/Courses_and_Programs/Honors_Program/ .

The TCC College Access program is designed to help spread awareness of the programs available at TCC and help students through the process of beginning their coursework at the college. Students who are interested in TCC will be guided through the admissions process during the school year. TCC College Access representatives will be on campus at different times during the first semester of student’s senior year to guide them through the application process, testing, and advisement.

We are giving the ASVAB Friday, October 2 to all students who registered.

On October 14, we will be giving the PSAT to all 10th graders and to any ninth or eleventh graders who registered.

On October 14, any junior who is not taking the PSAT will be taking the TSI- College entrance exam for TCC.

Senior Information

This is the latest information concerning seniors.

Seniors will be meeting on September 29 the last 20 minutes of their lunches to get information about their cap and gowns. All information will be posted on our website and can be picked up in the house principal office.

We will have our first large senior student meeting on October 14, 2015 during the school day. While the other grade levels are taking the PSAT/TSI/and Writing benchmark, seniors will have a College Day on campus where we will discuss senior pictures, yearbook ads, ordering cap/gown, prom, senior checklist for the year, and visit college booths to gain information about admittance, scholarships, FAFSA, etc.
