Student Group Spotlight
Berkeley Water Group
The Berkeley Water Group (BWG) was formed with the goal of providing a forum in which students from different departments can meet every other week to collaborate and discuss the interdisciplinary topics of water, sanitation, and hygiene. Check out their Idea Lab here!

BWG also serves as a hub through which participants can alert each other to talks, events and conferences addressing our shared interests. For example, the BWG was responsible for connecting two students to summer internship positions with projects for the summer in India and Mexico.
BWG, Engineers without Borders, and Wakunga Technologies are currently partnering for an opportunity to share an innovative technology with the UC Berkeley campus!
Wakunga Technologies will be presenting Fire 2.0, a two-step process that captures environmental thermal energy for the purpose of doing work.
- Step 1: Generating a thermal gradient using water solution and salt water solution.
- Step 2: Recharging the process using a solar chimney.
The entire process takes in water and emits water vapor as a result. Current implementation ideas include: water distillation, off-grid refrigeration, and water heating.
