Please take a look at information below about our Studio in a School Partnership, our upcoming Compass Book Fair, and our upcoming Compass Winter Dance. All of these initiatives were started by Compass families are are part of the Family School Collaborative. Let us know if you would like to help out with either of these initiatives. If you have any questions about these specific events, please contact the chairs in the blurbs below. Thanks!
Studio in a School
Thanks so much to the families who have given money to support the Studio in a School Program. If you haven't given money yet and are able to, please do so! The program comes out to about $60 per child. If you are more comfortable paying in installments, or paying part of the amount, that is just fine as well.
You can pay through Square Cash (make sure to write Studio in a School in the subject line please) and send it to Todd's attention at todd@brooklyncompass.org. You can also give a check or cash to the office.
If you have any questions about this partnership, feel free to email Compass parent Heather Maxson at heathermaxson@gmail.com.
Compass Book Fair on Sunday! Please join us!
Please join us for our first Compass Book Fair!
This event is being put on by our parent group, the Family School Collaborative, in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore in Fort Greene.
The book fair will be a time and place to share and discover books. There will also be fun activities for everyone. There is no obligation to purchase books at the book fair. If you do choose to purchase books, you may choose to donate books to the classrooms and/or purchase books for your home library. Our school will receive a gift card with a portion of the proceeds.
In addition to having lots of good things in one spot: books, beer, and hot pretzels, it will be a great wintertime weekend destination & family get together!
We hope to see you at the Book Fair!
If you have questions about this event, please contact Compass parent Ben Wheeler at 917.254.1578 or wheeler.benjamin@gmail.com.

Snack Prep Volunteers Needed
We still have several open spots in January for snack prep duty. It’s a great excuse to spend time in our lovely school and peek in on your gorgeous kid(s)! If you can’t or don’t want to sign up online please emailleighhillkader@gmail.com directly.
We need volunteers Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Starting around 1:15 in the Community Room, prepping and delivering snack takes less than 1/2 hour, and if you can stay a little longer to help wash the plates that’s a bonus. We appreciate your help!
Here's how it works in 3 easy steps:
1. Click this link to go to our invitation page on VolunteerSpot: http://vols.pt/8DhMN9
2. Enter your email address: (You will NOT need to register an account on VolunteerSpot)
3. Sign up! Choose your spots - VolunteerSpot will send you an automated confirmation and reminders. Easy!
P.S. Don’t forget to submit your snack dues.
In order to provide snack to our students each day, we need to collect Snack Dues from each family once a month. The average cost of snack for each child is $10 a month. We ask that you contribute what you can, between $5 and $20 a month. If you are able to sponsor the cost of snack for another child, we would greatly appreciate it.
How to Send Snack Dues
Electronic Way to Send Snack Dues: Square Cash (click on the left side of the webpage for a short video on how it works and enter your cell phone on the right to get a text giving you $1 and a link to get started. Must have a debit card). After you get the text, all you need to do is enter your debit card information, download the app and type your email address. You are now ready to make and receive payments. To send Compass money, press "Send", select an amount and send the money to Todd's email address (todd@brooklyncompass.org).
If you would like to know how you can set up a recurring, monthly payment from your Citibank or Chase account, email Todd.
Non-electronic way to send Snack Dues: If you are not able to use Square Cash or are not comfortable using an electronic system, please send cash or a check (Made to Compass Charter School) in an envelope with your child's name and Snack Dues on the front.
One last note:
When using Square Cash or a check, please note for which month(s), i.e. “January Snack Dues" in the memo for our record keeping purposes.
So Kind
We created an online registry using So Kind for items and services we need around the school. Many of the items we are looking for can be used. Please take a look and let us know if you can help out with anything on the list. Thanks!
