Day 10 Objective
Students will use the least number of dimes, nickels, and pennies to produce an amount given by providing the correct number of each coin and counting the coins out loud to the teacher for the given amount.
Lesson
- Anticipatory Set
- The teacher will give students a set of dimes, nickels, and pennies.
- Students will be given a picture of a food item from a weekly grocery advertisement.
- Students will count the dimes first, by 10's, then the nickels next, by 5's, and last add on the pennies, counting by 1's, to find the least number of coins that match the amount for the food item in the picture.
- Students will practice counting different amounts of dimes, nickels, and pennies to find the least number of coins needed to match the amount for 3 different food items in the advertisement.
