Fire Drill
I found it interesting from my perspective because as everyone went by the front office it was extremely quietly. Usually students are talking and it is a bit louder but as it was on this first day back to school, I guess the students and staff were still in a fog after Spring Break!!

Band and Orchestra travels to Ireland
Over spring break the music department took between 60-70 band and string students to Ireland for performances and sight-seeing. The students rehearsed outside of class several times to learn roughly 45 minutes of music (zero of which rehearsed during the school day or performed at Festival) and had three performances throughout Ireland. Not only did our students perform wonderfully, bringing Americana-themed music to the Emerald Isle (Gershwin, Disney music, Captain America March, jazz, etc) but our students represented our community extremely well with minimal issues. Our students were a hit both on the concert stage and as tourists!
They will have an encore performance of our Ireland set Monday April 29th at 6pm in the quad outside of the Band rooms for those of you interested in seeing our world-travelers perform. This performance will feature PHS Class of 1996 alum Elliott Moreau, Principal Bassoon player with the Pacific Symphony; Elliott traveled with us and gave us that extra level of legitimacy with his professional skills.
Robotics continues to win awards
For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology
Poway High School – FRC Robotics Team 1622
Team Spyder wins the Imagery Award in honor of Jack Kamen, Pit Safety Award and Ryan Barnett wins the Safety Star Award in the Hopper-Turing Division.
Please Congratulate Poway High School’s FIRST Robotics Students
Competing at the International FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston, TX OUT OF 403 TEAMS TOTAL AT THE EVENT!
Poway High School’s Team Spyder 1622 seeded 45 out of 66 teams in the Turing Division, with a record of 4-6-0. During the qualification matches, team alliances are randomly paired up. While your ranking in seeding is based upon your alliance’s performance as a whole, it does not indicate the ranking of the best robots.
The most exciting match was qualification match 110 between FRC Teams 3937, 6957, 5716 and 1622, 2930, and 3933. What made this match so exciting was that our robot at the very end raced across the field climbing onto the 2nd level of the HAB with seconds to spare winning the match. This was the last match of the day with Team Spyder ending on a high note!
Imagery Award in honor of Jack Kamen: In honor of Jack Kamen, Dean’s father, for his dedication to art and illustration and his devotion to FIRST. This award celebrates attractiveness in engineering and outstanding visual aesthetic integration of machine and team appearance.
Safety Star Award: The Championship Safety Star Award recognizes an individual student that goes beyond safety fundamentals at the competition. Only five students at the Championship receive this Award. Ryan Barnett won this award representing our team.
Safety Pit Award: The Championship Safety Pit Award recognizes the team that goes beyond safety fundamentals at the competition and is voted on by the other teams at the competition. Only five teams at the Championship receive this Award.
Preparing for the end
