THE RHE RATTLER
February 6, 2021
A Note from Mrs. Frankhouser
There are many questions around what the future holds.
What EXACTLY will STAAR look like?
There is general information about STAAR in this newsletter below. Specific information to follow. Each school may have a different STAAR schedule.
When is Kindergarten Round Up?
There will be communication from the district soon. You can help us be prepared for school next year by encouraging everyone you know that plans to come to RHE to register early! Last minute registrations mean last minute hires and a scramble to be prepared for our Rattlers.
Will there be a remote option for school next year?
Who knows! I have learned that predicting out even one week is iffy.
When will 5th grade parents learn about middle school transition?
Middle schools are currently creating some video information for elementaries. This information will come out around the end of February or early March. Our counselor, Karen Wager, is our transition liaison and can help answer your questions.
What about Spring events?
We are still in Stage 5 restrictions. The district is discussing this as I type.
As I have definitive answers on all of these topics, I assure you I will let you know. I will be sure to communicate the information early enough with you that it is timely, but not before I have concrete information to share. I caution everyone to wait for information from me or the school district to get that concrete information and stay away from things you might read on social media or hear through the grapevine. That's just a good rule of thumb!
Don't forget that there is no school for students February 11, 12, or 15th.
February 26.................Instructional Status Change Form Due - 4th grading Grading Period for Remote Rattlers wishing to join in-person learning.
Rattlers Celebrate Black History Month
A Special Message for Remote Parents
- Keep those cameras on! In order for teachers to assess your child's progress, they must see that they are there and participating.
- Keep the school routine alive. Getting up, getting dressed, and being up and ready for school are critical to a student's success. Having a designated place for school is critical as well. That "home office" for your Rattler is important.
- Remember that as tempting as it is to help when a child is struggling, witness the struggle and contact the teacher. In an in-person setting, a teacher can easily see what a child can do independently and assess how much help they need with certain skills. In a remote setting, it is difficult for the teacher to know where the struggle is especially if there is assistance from the parent behind the scenes. Supporting your child is wonderful! With that, making sure the teacher knows there is a struggle is EXTREMELY important.
- Writing doesn't have to be perfect. Often times, emerging writers (especially young ones) have errors in their writing. That's OK! No one expects perfection as we learn. We'll get there, but we want to make sure children are free to get their own thoughts out on paper. We work on mechanics as we go.
- Art, music, and PE are extremely important! Make sure your child gets these opportunities throughout the week.
Valentine Bag pick up will be in the front drive of the school on
Monday, February 8th between noon and 6pm
Tuesday February 9th between 8am and 6pm
We have some additional items that belong to remote learners including student council posters etc. Please pick those up as well. Items not picked up by Spring Break will be discarded or repurposed.
We celebrated Mrs. Wager this week for Counselor's Week
RHE Community Event - Great Backyard Bird Count February 12-15
This is one of the largest events of "citizen science" in the world. During these three days, people all over the world identify and count birds in your community. Data is then shared with scientists at The Cornell Lab and helps scientists understand migration patterns of birds all over the world. It's a GREAT opportunity for Rattlers to enjoy some time outside, get to know our local fauna, and contribute to science!

Let's be scientists together!!!
