Comet Connection
Keeping you connected with Silver City ES!
ADMIN UNIVERSE
We are wrapping up our second week of testing and our Comets have done an incredible job of "showing what they know" on the Georgia Milestones. I am incredibly proud of how hard our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have worked to prepare for these assessments and how they have acted with respect, responsibility, and integrity throughout testing. I am also very proud of the way our K-2 Comets have rolled with the changes to the schedule and accommodated a "quiet school" these past 7 days.
After testing is done, we have a few more weeks of school left and there are so many exciting events to look forward to! We have Field Day, the final Galactic Games, end-of-year class parties, and our 5th grade Honors Celebrations. Lots to look forward to!!
We have many volunteers helping with Field Day this year, whether running a station or helping homeroom classes make it through all of the events. Thank you to all of our parents who are volunteering to help make this an incredibly fun, safe, well-managed event for all the Comets!!
Each year, we ask for volunteers to serve on our Local School Council (LSC) for the upcoming school year. Next year, we have a couple of community/parent spots to fill on our LSC and, as we do each year, we are reaching out to our community to see who would be willing to serve. If you are interested, please indicate your interest here by Wednesday, May 11. Once we have some people showing interest, we will vote on incoming members. Thank you for your interest in serving!!

We are looking to fill a couple of spots on our Local School Council (LSC) for the 2022-23 school year. If you are interested, please fill out this interest form by Wednesday, May 11.

PTA General Meeting
Come see how the $70K we raised for Silver City was spent this year and make suggestions for how to support the school next year!
We hope to see you Monday at 9:00am in the Comet Cafe!!
Support our Robotics Team
Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 4, we will be selling KONA Ice for $5 to students after their lunch period. Remember to send in money so your child's purchase of this icy treat can support the Robotics team!
Last Wednesday, we sold out of warm, delicious, fresh Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuits in the morning car rider line and raised around $330 for the team. So, we are going to try this fundraiser again but we are selling 200 biscuits this time around. We will be selling hot, fresh Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuits this Friday, May 6 in morning car rider for $5 (cash only). We can only sell to parents. Please remember to bring your $5 cash to buy a biscuit, plus ANYTHING you donate above that will also go directly to the team!
Let's get Callie and Cody to the WORLD competition!
LLS Light The Night Fundraiser
Silver City is Proud to Support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society this Year!
Everyone is touched by cancer in some way. As a school, we are so proud to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) this year through our Light The Night fundraiser! In the past, this fundraiser has been called Hero Squad and Pennies for Patients and we want to continue to support this great organization.
LLS is a global leader in the fight against cancer. The LLS mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world, has invested nearly $1.3 billion in the most pioneering science worldwide since 1949, provides free information and support services, and is the voice for all blood cancer patients seeking access to quality, affordable, coordinated care.
The LLS Light The Night program inspires students to help bring light to the darkness of cancer. To learn more about LLS and their life-saving work, visit lls.org. If you know someone that can benefit from personalized disease treatment or support information, please refer them to a dedicated Information Specialist at 800.955.4572.
Our Light the Night fundraiser will pit grade levels against each other and will run from Monday, May 9 through Friday, May 20. The grade levels that donate the most money at school and through the online platform will earn the following prizes:
- First Place - Pie the Principal and Extra Recess with Ice Pops
- Second Place - Extra Recess with Ice Pops
- Third Place - Extra Recess
We will also have a "Chunk the Change" final push for the fundraiser where SCES Comets will be in car rider on Thursday, May 19, to collect the loose change in your car for a donation to LLS! We hope you can join us in supporting this important fundraiser!
KINDERGARTEN Step-Up Night - May 19

Parents and their rising kindergartners are invited to join us to see what our school looks like, get a glimpse into a Kindergarten classroom, meet the teachers, learn a little about expectations for Kindergarten, and see what a "day in the life" is like as a new Comet.
Kindergarten Bus Round-up and Open House - Tuesday, August 2 at 10:30am - These events are currently scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, August 2, but more information will be shared later in the year.
