As you may have heard, pending board approval on May 8, I will be transferring to Lincoln Elementary School this summer to be their principal as Dr. Jackie Attinello will be retiring. This is a bittersweet time for me as I am completing my 11th year at Shoemaker Elementary.
I am excited to have been afforded the opportunity to serve another school within the East Penn School District, and look forward to working with the students, families and staff there.
With that being said, I have so many fond memories of my time at Shoemaker. Shoemaker is a special place. I will miss my “Shoe family” which is made up of amazing students, families, and staff. I can’t thank you enough for the support you have given me over the years and the opportunity to have worked with your children, some of which are now fully engrained in their college years!
It has been my pleasure working with all of you and I wish all of you continued success at Shoemaker.
Warmly,
Lynn Brinckman
Principal

Shoemaker Elementary PTO 1st Annual Color Run
May 12, 2017
The fun begins at 5:30 p.m.
Run from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
After race party until 9 p.m.
Join the fun!
The Color Run is open to every student in Shoemaker Elementary and their immediate family members. Every registered Shoemaker student will receive a free Color Run t-shirt. Additional shirts can be purchased.
Participants can collect pledges for prizes; however, everyone is encouraged to join us to run in our new event at no cost thanks to our generous sponsors.
Our great new fundraising event!
This year, we will be hosting our very own Color Run. This is an exciting new event that will help create awareness for healthy living, raise funds, and is sure to be a blast!
A COLOR RUN FOR ALL!
Participants can run, walk, or jog our short course or long course. Be sure to wear your Shoemaker Color Run t-shirt because along the course there will be color powder stations where you will get showered with color powder (high quality cornstarch and food dyes, approved by the US FDA). Participants can also choose to bypass the color powder and continue around the course. At the end of the race, there will be a mass color throw, followed by music provided by our DJ, as well as various food and snack vendors. Strollers are welcome and bright, fun, zany attire is encouraged. Remember to stop by the Christmas City Studios photo area to get a keepsake picture with your colorful friends!
Thanks to your Generosity Shoemaker School donated $620.00 to The Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to help fight Childhood Cancer
LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION! SHOEMAKER TALENT SHOW WILL BE JUNE 9th at 9:30
The Shoemaker talent scouts are searching for talented students to perform in our annual talent show! From these grade level talent shows, select acts will be chosen to perform at an all-school assembly on June 9th.

HEALTH ROOM HAPPENINGS...NEW IMMUNIZATION LAWS
Health Room Happenings
Hello Shoemaker Community,
I know this information is posted on EPSD website but I felt it is important enough to bare repeating.
There has been a change in the Immunization Laws for 2017-2018 school year. This change may impact not only our incoming students but our present students at all grade levels.
Here is a breakdown of the changes:
All children must have:
· 4 doses of tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis ( DTap, DTP, or DT or TD)
· 4 doses of polio (4th dose on or after 4th birthday and at least 6 months after previous dose given) (** this is new**)
· 2 doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)
· 2 doses of Varicella (chickpox) or evidence of immunity
· 3 doses of Hepatitis B
7th through 12th grade ADDITIONAL immunization requirements for attendance:
· 2 doses meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV)
First dose is given 11-15 years of age; a second dose is required at age 16 or entry into 12th grade.
(**2nd dose is new**)
If the dose was given at 16 years of age or older, only one dose is required.
· 1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap)
Your child must have the required medically-appropriate vaccines or a Dr signed plan to complete those vaccines or risk exclusion from school, before starting the 2017-2018 school year.
Each building nurse should be sending out letters to the student’s that this new law affects in the month of April.
Thank You,
Mrs. Freiwald RN
School Nurse
