Newsletter Week 1 Term 3
Sacred Heart School Christchurch 30 July 2021
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I hope everyone has had a wonderful break and it is good to see the sun shining for the start of Term 3. Teachers have worked over the break to put together another exciting term of learning. Five staff members attended a conference in Wellington to further our understanding of how we develop Deep Learning with your children. We have also been working on how we communicate with parents and the community and you will see here the new Newsletter format including a new Facebook page link that we ask that you ‘Like’. We will continue to make use of Seesaw to share your children's learning and progress through the term. Please take time to comment on your children’s work as it is posted.. We are excited to let you know that we have purchased a script for our Whole School Production for the end of Term 4. I look forward to catching up with you all as the Term progresses.
Liturgical Year
On Monday the Church celebrated Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The couple's faith and perseverance brought them through the sorrow of childlessness, to the joy of conceiving and raising the immaculate and sinless woman who would give birth to Christ.
The Mass
Last term we looked at the Mass up until the end of the Liturgy of the Word. We continue explaining the Mass during Term 3. After the Scripture readings, the celebrant preaches the homily. In the homily, the priest focuses on the Scripture texts drawing from them lessons that may help us to live better lives, more faithful to Christ's call to grow in holiness.Learning
This term students across the school are spending the first half of the term focussing on displacement and what we can do to support people in these situations. The second part of the term will see all students across the school begin preparation for the whole school production.
Our competency focus for the term is creativity and will see students developing their creativity in a variety of ways including thinking and through each of the curriculum areas.
