Join Us for Online Worship: Shift Expectations of Our Leaders
The fall season normally provides a fresh start and a regular routine. For the past six months, though, we have been forced to alter just about everything in our lives. We now must willingly shift from what was to what can be, while keeping our focus on the God we know and trust. This shift begins with shifting our expectations.
Sunday, September 20 | Week 3 | Shift Expectations of Our Leaders
Nobody is perfect and we have to understand that about our leaders. While giving some grace to our leaders, we also need to hold high expectations of character and hold them accountable. What’s the role of Christians in this process? What expectations should we have? Join us as we wrestle with those questions.
Online worship is available at any time Sunday or throughout the week using the button below. The worship service will include traditional and contemporary music, scripture, prayer, children’s message, and sermon by Pastor Clay. Be sure to register your attendance so we know you’re watching!
VRUMC Bingo! Let’s Play and Live into Our Mission
We’ve already had some completed VRUMC Bingo cards returned! Are you playing VRUMC Bingo this month? It’s not too late to participate.
For each completed card returned, a generous donor will give $20 to a community partner of your choice. Simply complete at least 10 of the items on the card, in any order. The VRUMC Bingo cards and details on how to complete each item can be found on the church website. There’s a special card for our Vista Kids to complete too!
Drop off completed cards at the church or email a scan or photo of the card to vrumc@vrumc.org by Thursday, October 1.
This is a great way to learn about everything going on at the church while helping to raise money for Rockbrook Elementary, The Salvation Army, and Christian Community Action Food Pantry.
New Small Group Study: God’s Messy Family
The Vista Forum class is beginning a new series based on the book God’s Messy Family at 10 a.m. Sunday and invites anyone interested to join the virtual meeting. The class will watch the short videos and discuss the Bible characters presented by author Jacob Armstrong.
Drama. Drama. Drama. Your family may be the stuff of a hit reality TV show, but into every family a little…or a lot… of drama must sometimes fall. That’s the way we humans have been from the very beginning. Take a look at the lives of Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob, and Esau in Jacob Armstrong’s newest book, God’s Messy Family. As you meet these “messy” families in the stories in Genesis, you’ll recognize a pattern to their lives: they are called, they mess up, and God continues to redeem them. Sound familiar? Find out how your “messy” family fits into God’s family and how you are part of God’s plan for the world.

Bible App Study: Under God?
As we continue our Shift Expectations worship series, join Pastor Clay and others for the Bible app study, Under God?
Anyone interested can use the link to participate in the five-day devotional, which begins Monday, September 21. Reading the devotional and scripture takes only a few minutes a day and can be done on your own schedule. There also are opportunities within the study to write and share your thoughts with other participants.
Only one name can bring the world together, but the name of Jesus is more controversial than any government or political figure in the world. Do you truly live your life “under God?” Are you ready to start?
Steve Gosling Writes, Publishes New Devotional Book on the Corinthians
Our very own Steve Gosling has written and published a new book, We Are All Corinthians, a weekly devotional focusing on Paul’s letters to the Corinthians.
The book provides a review of the Corinthian church’s relationship with the Apostle Paul, as seen through Acts and Paul’s letters. Each of the 121 weeks contains scripture, the author’s commentary on the scripture, and the devotional.
More details about the book, including the forward written by Pastor Clay, can be found on Steve’s website. The book is available from Amazon and Book.com in paperback and Kindle edition.
Steve has been teaching the Bible for 25 years. After a 42-year career in commercial construction, he retired in 2016, and published To Seek and Save – The Gospel of Luke later that year. Steve has attended Vista Ridge UMC for the past 15 years.
