Canaan Middle School Update
November 18, 2022
Principal Corner
Canaan Families,
The cold weather has arrived and with the change in weather also comes a change in recess for students. We try our best to allow students to go outside even when it is chilly out. Many times we will give students the option of indoor recess in the gym or outdoor recess. However, students need a coat to go outside when the temperature is in the low 40s and below. There will be other times when we have full inside recess when the temperature is just too cold outside or when there is rain/snow following.
As we move into the Thanksgiving season, I wanted to thank our hard-working students that make this job so enjoyable day in and day out, our teachers for the incredible effort they put into our students each day, and our supportive and generous families. I am blessed to get to work with this amazing group of students, staff, and families. I hope everyone has a joyful and relaxing holiday season!

Canaan Middle School
5th Grade Update
In ELA we launched our non-fiction unit. Students are learning about the main idea and key details. They should continue to read for 20 minutes nightly and study for their weekly vocabulary test.
Students completed their food web projects this week. After researching a specific ecosystem, students constructed food webs containing the producers, consumers, and decomposers from that region. Students gave a brief presentation to their classmates of their findings. We ended the week with a short quiz, and will continue learning about ecosystems in the next several weeks.
In Mrs. Hanson’s social studies class, students finished up their U.S. Regions Projects this week. We’ll continue to review the landforms, landmarks, climate, and other features of each region in preparation for a quiz after Thanksgiving Break.
Please remember to empty your child’s red take-home folder once a week.
6th Grade Update
Counselor’s Corner - Mrs. Hein
Sixth graders had the opportunity to utilize the Ohio Means Jobs website to
explore careers based on their interests. Students enjoyed taking the Career Cluster
Inventory to help narrow down their career choices. From their results, they were
able to learn about the necessary skills, personality traits, education
requirements, and salaries associated with each occupation that interested them.
