Culture

Most of the Culture is based on the Islam religion. Their language is Arabic but because of all the tourists they have English as their second language. Many of the older Emirati men prefer wearing the traditional Emirati clothes, such as the kandura, an ankle-length white shirt woven from wool or cotton while many local women wear an abaya, a black over-garment covering most parts of the body. The United Arab Emirates is a part of the Arab khaleegi tradition. Yowla is a type of music and dance performed mainly in communities

Politics

Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Is the President of the United Arab Emirates. The Politics of the United Arab Emirates takes place in a framework of a federal, presidential, absolute monarchy. The economy of the United Arab Emirates is the second largest in the Arab world, with a gross domestic product of $570 billion in 2014. The United Arab Emirates has been successfully diversifying its economy. Their currency is the United Arab Emirates dirham.

Geography

Located in the Southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula on the Persian Gulf Bordering Oman to the East and Saudi Arabia to the South. Major cities include Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Al Ain. Their major industries are shopping and food. The country also happens to have a sub-tropical climate so it is sunny all year round. Their Capitol is Abu Dhabi.

History

  1. 1820 - Britain and local rulers sign a treaty to combat piracy along the Gulf coast. From this, and later agreements, the area becomes known as the Trucial Coast.

  3. 1892 - Deal between the Trucial States and Britain gives Britain control over foreign affairs and each emirate control over internal affairs.

  4. 1950s - Oil is discovered.

  5. 1952 - The seven emirates form a Trucial Council. (Trucial States were a group of sheikhdoms in the south eastern Persian Gulf, previously known to the British as the 'Pirate Coast', which were signatories to treaties with the British government.)
