2020-21 PLANNING SURVEY ~ Compass Charter Schools is making great strides in 2020. Every day, we strive to improve the quality and integrity of our virtual program, but we cannot do it without your feedback. CCS has created a survey to help us continue this forward momentum. We encourage you to participate in the survey and respond by Friday, March 6, as it will help shape our planning for the upcoming 2020-21 academic year.
ASSESSMENTS ~ It is a busy season for Assessments!
PFT - Testing window opened February 10. Instructions were emailed from your teacher.
ELPAC - Testing began February 5 and will continue until May 30. This is the annual Summative ELPAC for English Learners. Some scholars may need to take the Initial ELPAC when enrolling and also take the Summative ELPAC. Please contact your teacher if you have any questions.

CAASPP testing is coming up. We are working to secure those last few test sites. The test window will be from March 30 to April 10. Scholars will be registered for the site closest to their address on record. If you need to update your address, please do so by Monday, March 2, by using the Change of Information Form.

AVID ~ The AVID program needs your voice! If you are a current or former AVID Elective scholar or Learning Coach, please share your experience with the program. This can be in the form of a testimonial, sharing an experience, or anything else that made being an AVID scholar meaningful to you. Constructive suggestions for improvement are welcome too. ONLINE HANDBOOK HIGHLIGHT ~ Did you know that your teachers are available for extra support outside of Learning Labs? All online teachers host weekly Q&A sessions (web-based instruction hosted by teachers as “office hours”) where scholars can receive tutoring and assistance on coursework in real-time. Scholars are also encouraged to schedule appointments outside of the scheduled Q&A if the teacher’s schedule does not work with theirs or if they need additional support. Don’t miss out on these fantastic opportunities to help support you academically!
PARENT TOWN HALL ~ We are hosting our third quarterly Superintendent's Town Hall for the Online Learning Program tonight at 7 pm! We will share exciting updates on our 2020-21 program during this Town Hall. Learn more and RSVP through our ParentSquare calendar!
RE-ENROLLMENT ~ Our 2020-21 re-enrollment window opens next Monday, March 2! Watch your inbox as we are using a new platform this year, School Pathways, which will ask if your scholar(s) will be continuing their educational journey with us next year! For those scholars who re-enroll by Friday, March 20, we have a special offering…our 2020 limited-edition Proud Scholar T-Shirt! We hope you will continue to place your trust in us and continue your journey at Compass!

TEST PREP LEARNING LABS ~ State testing is around the corner! Make sure you attend all of your learning labs in the month of March so you don’t miss out on some important testing tips!

MARCH MADNESS ~ Are you ready for a competition? We will be holding our March Madness Learning Lab attendance competition throughout the month. The class with the highest percentage of attendance during March will win a special prize from your teacher! Make sure to check the MMU each week to see which class is in the lead!
TEST PREP STRATEGIES ~ Calling all 11 graders! Do you get stressed about taking a test? Do you know what it takes to score well on the CAASPP? To help you overcome test anxiety, join Ms. Shabaglian’s Learning Labs throughout March to review the best test-prep strategies to prepare for the big test in April. If you have questions, please reach out to Ms. Shabaglian.

CCS Cafe: How to Prepare for University Admissions - Tuesday, February 25 from 12-12:30 pm - This session will discuss the important aspects of the university application process and how it is reviewed. From GPA to extracurriculars, we will go over it all! Any scholar interested in applying to a university is encouraged to attend. Please join Ms. Olson and Mrs. Schwartzberg in the Counseling Learning Lab.
SAT/ACT Bootcamp - Thursday, February 27 from 12-1 pm
Are you taking the SAT or ACT and don’t know where to begin? Do you need help with test prep and how to learn strategies? Join Ms. Olson and Mrs. Wingate for the next four Thursdays starting February 27 from 12-1 pm in the Counseling Learning Lab.
SEL Workshop: We All Make Mistakes (for scholars in grades 4-12) - March 3 from 12-12:30 pm. - Mistakes we make can be frustrating, hurt others, or just make our day harder. When our mistakes involve others it can make us and them feel embarrassed, disappointed, or angry. Apologizing and forgiving ourselves and others can make our relationships better and more compassionate. In this workshop, scholars will learn how making mistakes is a part of life. Please join Ms. Bateman and Mrs. Wingate in the Counseling Learning Lab.

SPECIAL EDUCATION NEWS
FEATURED ARTICLE ~ Tests can be anxiety-provoking for even the best students, but they can be particularly problematic and even traumatic for special education students who may struggle with test-taking skills and may struggle to understand new information. These tips can help teachers and parents properly prepare their children so that they are in the best frame of mind and are best prepared when the testing day finally arrives. These tips work equally well for typical classroom examinations as they do for standardized testing. Read the full article here.
