PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
What a busy weekend it was in the Bay with the Hawke's Bay Marathon. We had a number of staff and parents competing, which was great to see. From our staff, Mr Gray took out the 21km walk in his age group and well done to Miss Denny and Mrs Cranswick who also did very well.
Room 2 are currently at Guthrie Smith and are the last of our Year 5 camps this year. Last week Room 1 & 4 ventured up to Lake Tutira and had a great time. Room 4 showed plenty of resilience coping with plummeting temperatures and rain. Well done to Mrs McNeill, Mrs Cooper, Mrs Wilkins and the team! A big thank you to all our Year 5 parents who have assisted on camp. The teachers have been glowing in their reports. You were a wonderful support to both staff and students. Thank you!
A special welcome to our new student Annabelle Newman. Well done on making such a positive start to school Annabelle.
This is the last week for Bounceboard orders. Please see further details in the body of this newsletter.
A reminder that Chugs (Running Club) takes place every Friday morning with Hannah (one of our awesome mums). They meet at 7.20am at the school hall, ready to run at 7.30am. Everybody welcome, including parents.
National Pink Shirt Day (Anti-Bullying) is this Friday 21st March. We look forward to supporting this very worthy cause. We ask students wearing a pink shirt to please provide a going coin donation which will be sent on to the Mental Health Foundation.
A reminder that all local Primary and Intermediate state schools have a Teacher Only Day on Friday 4th June. On this date, Havelock North Intermediate, Lucknow, Haumoana, Te Mata and Havelock North Primary will be doing some collective curriculum development work.
Thank you and have a great week everyone.
Ngā mihi

Principal
Hawke's Bay Lit Quiz
Well done to our three Lit Quiz teams who competed in the Hawke's Bay Year 6-8 competition at Napier Intermediate on Friday night. These students enjoyed themselves and competed strongly. At the end of the night, HNPS Number 2 team (Star Absolom, Amy Martin, Dario Rotondo and Ben Fergus) were first equal in a four-way tie. These teams had a playoff and eventually it came down to St Patricks and HNPS. Well done to St Patricks who prevailed in the end. Congratulations to our three teams who can be very proud of the way they represented our school.
A big thank you to Mrs Cameron who has trained our teams over the past few weeks and our amazing parents for their support.
Go Room 13!
This term we have been reading The Witches by Roald Dahl. Each week we read some chapters and follow up with some work related to the story. We have also been taking part in Friday Twitter chats with schools all across the country. These chats are run by Chapter Chat - a Twitter book chat for New Zealand school kids. This week we created posters all about The Grand High Witch. We had to draw a picture of her, write words to describe both her appearance and her character, and write sentences about her. Guess what! The photo of our finished posters was chosen as Task of the Week by Chapter Chat! We are so proud of ourselves and our work. Have a look at our photo and let us know what you think. You can also like our work on Chapter Chat both on Facebook and Instagram.

Home and School Association News (Home and School is same as Friends of the school / PTA etc in other schools)
Did you know there is a HNPS Home and School Facebook page?
Make sure you follow this page as it has lots of info on upcoming social/fundraising events, uniform shop, Sushi Fridays etc.
This is different to the school Facebook page that has info about the school day. Both can be found via the school app.
Next Home and School Assoc Meeting
Monday 24th May at 7:30 pm in the school staff room (above the office). Anyone welcome to come along. Great way to have a say about fundraising for the school, find out what is happening in the school and meet other parents.

Yummy Stickers
Please collect the Yummy Fruit stickers until the end of term three. Either cut-out labels from apple and pear bags (each cut-out label is worth 10 stickers) and/or collect the individual Yummy stickers on the fruit.
The more we collect, the more share of the $200,000 free DG Sport sports gear prize pool we get from the lovely folk at The Yummy Fruit Company. So get going and start collecting your Yummy cut-out labels and stickers now!
If you want to stick your own sheet on the fridge – print out one from the Yummy Fruit website (see below link), collect a sheet from the office, or just bring them into the classroom in the lunchbox. Thanks!
Home and School Express
From monies raised from the Sushi Fridays, we have again donated money to each classroom this year. They have purchased various items for the children. These items are cherry on the top. Items they would not otherwise have eg lego, games, play equipment, aquarium items, robotics etc etc. Each classroom / teacher decides what is needed. Ask your classroom teacher what they got this year if you are interested.
Uniform Shop
If you can't make it to the uniform shop, did you know you can order via email?
1. Email your order to uniform@hnps.school.nz
2. Pay online into HNPS account 12-3439-0017857-00
3. Then the items can be dropped in to your child's class during normal uniform shop hours.
Sooo easy!
