PACE Information
PACE testing is coming to a close. Kindergarten results will be mailed in mid-February. For grades 1-5, committees are still meeting to discuss results. In addition, teachers will be gathering various work samples during February and March. District committees meet during the first week of April, and all Plano schools will send decision letters soon thereafter. If you have any questions, please contact Joyce Lin (joyce.lin@pisd.edu) .
Friendly Reminders -
Carlisle’s Open House: Thursday, March 2nd, 6:00-7:00 p.m. Students in each grade level are very excited and anxious to share different learning activities they have experienced throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you!
Please remember to keep your child’s emergency contact information up to date on the Parent Portal. Only those contact persons listed on the emergency form may pick your child up at school. Updating all medical information on this form is important since this document would go with your child to the hospital in the event of an emergency. Be sure to list all allergies and all medications that are taken regularly.
Please observe morning and afternoon car pool procedures. Signs have been appropriately placed to ensure student safety. Your cooperation to adhere to these traffic policies and procedures is very important as they were established for the safety of your child as well as all children.
Kindergarten Roundup will be held on Friday, March 24th in the Library. The hours will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. or 1:00-3:00 p.m. All incoming Kindergartners must be 5 years old by September 1, 2017. Please bring the following materials to Roundup: proof of residency (lease, gas or electric bill), certified birth certificate, record of immunization signed or stamped by physician or clinic, child’s social security card, and your driver’s license. Please share this information with friends and neighbors who will have a child in kindergarten next year.
Our week in pictures
Take a Taste Tuesday
The letter “S” brought us Star Fruit this week for Take a Taste Tuesday. Mrs. Butts’ class got to taste it. I found Star Fruits at the Market Street grocery store and bought the only 4 they had. I guess they are not very readily available. Also, there were very expensive so I don’t see them becoming a replacement for apples in the lunch box. However, what a very FUN fruit they are. The other name for Star Fruit is Carambola. They are very low in calories and high in fiber and vitamin C . The entire fruit is edible including the skin and seeds. Only a few of Mrs. B’s students had ever tasted star fruit before. Everyone thought the sliced star shapes were really cool. About ¾ of the class said they would try it again. It has a sweet tart flavor and one student said it tasted like grass. Mrs. B and I tend to agree. Maybe your family would like to give star fruit a try.
From the Nurse
Cold and Flu Season is Upon Us!
Although the rate of illness at Carlisle has not spiked yet, we are hearing from other nearby campuses that the flu has arrived in Plano in a big way. Parents, we need your diligence in keeping sick children home from school. We all have a responsibility to prevent the spread of illness. Remember that students should stay home a full 24 hours after a fever, without the need for fever reducing medication, before returning to school. The same policy applies to students who have vomiting or diarrhea. There should be no vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours and the student should be able to eat normally without a problem.
The common cold always presents a problem. There is often no fever. However, students whose symptoms are persistent or who cannot manage their symptoms (think Snot Monsters!) should stay at home.
Please remember that all medications are to be processed through the nurses office. The authorization form is available on the PISD website at: http://www.pisd.edu/parents/health/documents/MedAuthEngPro11-2015_002.pdf
We cannot stress enough the importance of effective HANDWASHING. Give me 5!
1. Water first. Always wet the hands thoroughly to begin.
2. Soap is next.
3. Scrubbing for 20 seconds. Don’t forget the back of the hands and in between fingers.
4. Rinse thoroughly.
5. Dry
EVEN COUGH DROPS ARE CONSIDERED TO BE MEDICATION!
Parents, cough drops and throat lozenges rarely contain any cough suppressing medication, however, PISD does require a medication authorization form. At school, students with a cough and / or sore throat are offered a salt water gargle, peppermint to suck on and frequent drinks of water. This is often just as effective or even more so than a cough drop.
