Literacy Corner
Our literacy them for the past two weeks has been living and nonliving things. Last week we concentrated on this topic. The class was introduced to researching in class. When asked what they would like to research as a class, the class voted on a cat. As a class, we looked up research on pebblego.com. I modeled every step of the research process for them by recording information found on a recording sheet, The class helped me come up with sentences about cats, which I wrote in a paragraph about cats. And lastly, I drew a picture of the environment in which a cat would live in as a pet, a home. The students were excited to know that they would be doing research in small groups, and this week they did. The class was broken into five groups. Each group had a different animal. Each students had a job in the group and they did a great job!!!
Next week we will complete our research activities. We will learn about spring and Easter and complete our literacy assessments in class. Please review all skills in reading and writing that have been taught. In reading, after your child has read to you, please make sure that they are retelling the story to you from beginning to end. In writing, please make sure they are putting capitals at the beginning of each sentence, spaces between words, and punctuation at the end of each sentence. I am very proud of what the students have been able to accomplish thus far!!!
Math Lab
Next week we will continue working on the same skills taught thus far. There will be no new skills introduced.
Parental Reminders and FYI...
If you would like to sign your child up for Camp Invention, please follow the link below. I will be teaching one of the sessions daily. It is a great opportunity for your child to explore their creative side and have fun at the same time.
Spring Fever is in the air. Please remind your child of the school-wide expectations. We still have a lot to learn this school year.
