Sixth Grade Newsletter
February 4, 2018
Dear Parents,
PTO Teacher Raffle information was sent home last week. We appreciate your support with this fundraiser!
English
This week students will be writing their arguments. They have a choice of formats, including letter, essay, poem, iMovie with script, or flyer. I have teamed up with a sixth-grade teacher in East Lansing whose students are also writing arguments, and we plan to have the students read and comment on one another's work through KidBlog at the end of this week or the beginning of next week. It will be a great opportunity for us to get feedback and see what other sixth-graders are doing.

Math
Last week, students finished chapter 5. They worked on problem solving strategies on story problems with percents. They also learned how to find the whole number given a percent and a part (For example, 12 is 25% of what number?). They finished the week by working on the Chapter 5 review. The homework assignments due on Monday are: Page 299(2-5)/page 300(1-6), Page 305(2-11)/page 306(1-6), and the Chapter 5 review on pages 307-312.
This week, students will be taking the Chapter 5 test. This might take 1-2 class periods. Afterwards, they will begin chapter six on units of measure. They will begin the chapter by learning how to convert units of length between the U.S. customary system and the metric system.
