SAS Update
September 14, 2018
THE WEEK AHEAD!
Formal Uniforms Are Now in Effect
With the break in the weather, all students should now be wearing formal SAS uniforms daily. The exception is Tuesdays, when the entire school has gym class, and then gym clothing may be worn. Those who are still awaiting delivery of school uniforms may wear black pants/shorts and polo shirts, but should also be in observance of all other dress code policies--this includes NO oversized accessories, bows, earrings, jewelry, lacy or patterned socks or tights. Headbands (school colors of green & gold are acceptable) and socks must be in uniform colors: black, green, gray, or white. Likewise, shoes to be worn with the school uniform MUST BE solid black or brown--white or colorful accents are fine on gym days only. If you have any questions about what is permissible, please consult our Dress Code handout. Thank you!
We are aware that Monday is also the dress down day for those students who earned a NUT card for bringing in home-baked goods for Frankfest--we look forward to seeing everyone in full uniform on Wednesday!
Pot of Gold Early Bird Drawing
Stop in at the St. Ann Parish Ministry Fair taking place after all Masses this weekend! On Sunday, the first $500 POG Early Bird will be drawn during the Fair after the 10:30 Mass. If you forgot to turn in your stubs, be sure to bring them to Mass with you and give them to the helper at the POG table. You can't win if your stubs aren't in the drum!
Cub Scouts Annual Kickof
All boys in Grades K-5 and their families are invited to our Cub Scout Pack 247 annual kickoff event! This year, we will host magician John Measner for an evening of family-friendly fun. Additionally, you can meet the leaders and find out all about Cub Scouting. Feel free to bring your friends--Pack 247 members come from all over, not just SAS. FMI, call Cub Master Karie Breitenreiter at 708-212-4104.
School Board Meeting
Our SAS School Board meets every third Wednesday of the month in the Parish Office. Meetings are open, and all are invited to attend. Get to know our School Board members by reading their bios on the St. Ann School website.
Skating Party!
SAS has been holding skating parties at the Lynwood Sport Center for over four decades now. Come join the tradition! Kids of all ages are invited; there are accommodations for even the youngest skaters. Admission is $6, and skate rentals are $2.50 (they even have learn-to-skate skates for the little ones, and "walkers" on wheels are available for $4 rental fee). Parents/guardians are not required to skate.
Every student does need to be accompanied by a responsible adult who will sign them in and out and remain on the premises for the duration of the event. This means that if you are unable to stay, another adult (18 or over) must be willing to take responsibility for your child in your absence--no unattended drop-offs will be allowed at any grade level. This year our school parents will be taking over some of the supervisory responsibility from the teachers, so this measure is designed to help keep everyone safe. Thank you for understanding!
The schedule for this year will be:
September 20: Hosted by the Teachers
October 25: Hosted by 8th Grade Parents
January 31: Hosted by 7th Grade Parents
March 7: Hosted by 6th Grade Parents
May 9: Hosted by 5th Grade Parents
Parents, don't panic if you see your grade listed above! Two teachers will still be present at every Skating Party, but we are asking for each grade to supply 5-6 adults to help with supervision on their assigned evening. If you are already going to be there, this is a quick way to knock out THREE volunteer hours at once! Each grade above is linked to its SignUp.
Supper Club at Munster Five Guys, September 23
We would like to welcome PreK mom Yesenia Tejeda Maciel, who will be taking over Supper Club from longtime coordinator Ellen Horn. She has already planned our next outing for October 20 at Buona Beef in Schererville. Thank you, Yesenia!
