Updates and Reminders
- Well...it's only 49 days until Winter Break:)
- Formal Observations: Please note that the dates for some formal observations have been adjusted. Feel free to stop by my office to check the date of your observation.
- Tomorrow Silvia Vargas leaves us for Mary Lyon School. Stop by 311 and wish her well!
- Thank you to everyone that has been playing in the Sandbox! Thursday jean days are a way to say thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to explore Aspen!
- Field Trips: You received an email yesterday about planning field trips. We fully understand that field trips are important, however the complex approval process is creating a backlog across the city. Field trips are no longer just "approved" by me. They must be approved by Central Office to ensure that our children are safe. Volunteers, bus companies, venues, and individual bus drivers must all be approved. For example, when a bus driver arrives for your trip we must take a copy of their license and search a data base to verify that the driver has passed their background checks. If the driver is not listed, the students are not allowed on the bus. As you plan for your trips this year, remember that we are limiting the number of field trips to one trip per quarter (with the exception of school-wide trips, end of year picnics, and and graduation events).
- Subs: Just as we are struggling to find parents and bus companies that are background checked and approved, the same holds true for many substitute teachers. Again, the Board is working as quickly as possible to conduct background checks, but this process does take time. With that being said, there is a shortage of substitute teachers unlike anything we have ever seen before. If you plan on requesting a personal day, please try to do so at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance (unless it's an emergency) and if you are taking a sick day, please try to put the request in Frontline the night before.
Student PIck Up and Dismissal
Just a reminder....
Please pick up your homeroom students at 8:00 each morning, either from the playground or the lunchroom. We would greatly appreciate it if you pick them up yourself:)
At dismissal, please do not line your students up in the hallway prior to the 3:00 dismissal bell. The hallways get crazy! Remember to escort your students outside at dismissal.
To avoid the mob scene at the statue, Brands Park students are now lining up in the lunchroom.
Just Ask Jess!
- Take a few minutes to go through your student records. If you have a file for a student that transferred or isn't in your classroom, send it to Jess.
- Are you taking a field trip? Make sure that you bring all inhalers and medications with you. Don't know how to find out if any of your students require accommodations? Just Ask Jess.
- Please make sure that your sub plans contain information about medications and accommodations. Need help with this? Just Ask Jess.
Clerks Corner
Don't forget to join the social committee. If you are interested in helping out with the Holiday Party, please speak with Gina.
We are still missing many emergency forms. When you have time, stop by the office and check your file for missing forms.
ESPecially for ESPs
A huge roar goes out to our recess staff. We realize that it is not easy to keep our kiddos engaged in a confined space and without playground equipment! Hopefully we will have a fully functional playground soon--but in the meantime, keep up the good work!
