A Message from Our Principal
Dear Palisades Families,
We are so thrilled to have our busses back! Thanks for your cooperation and patience while we got our drop-off and pick-up routines settle down a bit.
Thanks to all of you who attended our PTO virtual meeting on Tuesday! It was a pleasure to talk with all of you about the Social-Emotional work that we are undertaking. It is so nice to be settling into a routine here at Palisades and so exciting to hear students producing so much Spanish, having fun in STEM, PE, and Music.
We are working on a project district-wide interviewing students about what makes them happy and proud at school. It is lovely for me to get a chance to interview students about this. One of the questions I ask is how they would stick to solving a difficult problem, and the littlest ones have said some sweet things,
" I would ask my mom for help and get out my colored counters."
" I would get all the things that make me, me, near me, like my stuffed bear and my two best friends."
Several children said that if they could design their own classroom it would be a Lolly Pop classroom.
It is so good to hear their thoughts!
Warmly,
iReady
iReady
This Fall, all students in Grades 1-8 will complete two online i-Ready assessments in class. One is for math and the other is for reading. i-Ready is a program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform and tailor instruction to accelerate growth. This is the first of three i-Ready assessments we give each year, and results will be shared with parents in October.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s skill level. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.
In Lake Oswego, the Fall i-Ready window is open from September 7 to October 8.

A Message from Our Counselor
It's been a pleasure to get to know your children over the past few weeks. I also enjoyed hearing from some of you during Palisade's recent PTO meeting. As Palisade's school counselor, I support the social, emotional and academic development of all students. Your children might mention my lessons and visits to the classroom as well as my time with them out during recess and lunch. Please stay tuned for more wellness activities at Palisades including lunch bunch social groups, Student Council, and Spirit Assemblies.
In the meantime, I invite you to check out my website for useful information and resources. You'll find updates about the social-emotional curriculum we teach in the classroom including "Character Strong", the district's social-emotional learning program. This month we are exploring what it means to be Courageous and Respectful at Palisades.
Check out the Student Resource page on my website for some wonderful at home resources. The Digital Calm Corner has a wealth of activities and resources that will help your child learn how to regulate their feelings and practice self-care and wellness throughout their day.
