Keeping the Faith and Keeping Connected
MARCH 8, 2018
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. ~Philippians 2:5-11

CHARACTER WOW
Compassion versus Indifference
“The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.” ~ Proverbs 12:10
Compassion often motivated Jesus into action! The Gospel of Mark records “When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.” (Mark 6:34)
Compassion flows out of a heart of love, mercy, and kindness for others. Compassion is more than empathy or sympathy for the plight of another person. Empathy is the ability to understand what someone else is “going through”. Sympathy is a feeling of sorrow for someone’s trouble. Compassion builds on these feelings by taking action to help the person in need.
In Jesus’ story of the Good Samaritan, the Samaritan is highlighted as a hero because he treated the wounded stranger as if he was a neighbor. Stopping to bandage his wounds, the Good Samaritan took time to provide for the stranger’s healing even paying for his hotel stay.
The next time you are “moved with compassion”, take a moment and pray asking God for wisdom to know what action to take for your neighbor.
My Declaration: “I will live with compassion towards others asking God for wisdom when I act to meet their need.
Bible story: The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37)
Quote: “Evil, injustice, oppression, all of those awful things, they are not going to have the last word. Goodness, laughter, joy, caring, compassion, the things that you do and you help others do, those are going to prevail," — Archbishop Desmond Tutu
