The Warrior Way

A word from Mrs. Denton, Principal

Everyday I have the pleasure of getting to know your children at SMS. I am always impressed by their growth and maturity. Here are some reasons why we love your children.

We love our Warriors because...

  • They are smart, clever, and creative!
  • They are kind, caring, and enjoy helping others!
  • They are funny, happy, and collaborative!
  • They are diligent and persistent!

Parents, thank you for partnering with us as we all navigate these middle years together!

School Activites:

  • We have 15 music students who tried out and made the Honor Band and Honor Choir for the county! We are proud of their hard work. They will perform at Rabbobank on March 2nd.
  • Competitive Academic Teams: We currently have teams planning and practicing for History Day, Battle of the Books, Math Field Day, and the Knowledge Bowl. If your student is interested, please have them talk with their advisory teachers.
  • Fine Arts Department: We are very excited about a joined effort from our Fine Arts Department for the upcoming Spring Musical! April 4th students from Drama, Choir, and Band will be performing in High School Musical! Over 50 students auditioned for this epic production. Mark your calendars!

Fundraising Updates:

  • Our PTSA Fall catalog fundraiser did very well! Currently PTSA has just over $4000 to help fund activities and events for the students of Standard Middle School. Want to help? See the form below!
  • Our Athletics booster fundraiser for Mrs. Field's Cookies on February 8th. The funds raised help support our school athletics department.
  • Band boosters fundraiser of candy bars runs the month of February. The funds raised help support our music department. Students MAY NOT sell candy at school.

THANK YOU for supporting our school fundraisers!

February Events:

  • Monday Holidays 2/11 & 2/18 (no school)
  • Valentine's Day Rallies are coming to encourage respect, pride, and confidence. We love our Warriors!
  • AAA Saturday School Dates will resume March 2nd.
  • Our 8th graders are headed to Columbia Memorial Space Center field trips beginning this month and is coming as a new venue for our students. We are excited to have our Science Teachers work with students on this new academic field trip.
  • We need 20 chaperones for Camp Keep! If you are someone or know someone who is over 18 and can spend a week in March at the coast with our students, we need your help. Please call the school at 392-2130 for more information.

Stay involved in the academic and social areas of your middle school student's life. Here are some ways to do that:

  • Know where your students are before and after school. Also please remember campus does not open or have supervision until 8:00 a.m. on school days.
  • Have access to your student's information through our Parent Portal on Infinite Campus.
  • Make sure your contact information is current. Call the school to update phone numbers and addresses. You may update your email through Parent Portal.
  • Stay connected by keeping up-to-date through our social media and school webpage.
  • Join REMIND for quick school messages (see below)

John O'Brien Memorial Hardwood Classic Games

John O'Brien Memorial Hardwood Classic vs. Beardsley: To honor and celebrate the life of former Standard Middle School teacher, John O'Brien, who passed away in October, Standard Middle and Beardsley Jr. High collaborated to create an annual Basketball game title the Hardwood Classic. Mr. O'Brien coached for many years in both districts and had a positive impact on the lives of students in Oildale. These games were narrowly won this year by Beardsley, but the Warriors look forward to bringing home the trophies next year.

Career Day 2019

We wish to thank our school counselors and staff for creating an exciting day for the students of Standard Middle. We had over 30 speakers who shared their experiences in their given industry. Students were also able to provide feedback through a school-wide survey on their likes and preferences to help us plan for next year. Our presenters complimented our students' behavior and good questions in their sessions. We are proud of our Warriors!
