Students and Parents,

ECHS received a product safety warning indicating that the pencil pouches (BAZIC 3 Ring Binder Pouch) that were distributed with student backpacks this year "may exceed the federal limits for lead and/or cadmium". Students disposed of these items during club time on Friday, Sept 23rd. If your student was absent or currently using different materials other than what was provided at the beginning of the school year, we urge that you ensure the product is no longer in use and dispose of it immediately. Students will be provided with a new pencil pouch once they arrive.

Parents and students, testing continues in October with ACT, SAT (retakes), and PSAT. Please help students come on time, be well rested, and eat breakfast. All specific dates are listed above, and an email will be sent to parents/students at least one week prior to any test your child is scheduled for so you can help remind them.

To ensure accurate daily attendance, all ECHS students arriving at school after morning homeroom must report to the ECHS front office (210A) to be counted present. Late arrivals should report to the front desk for a tardy pass and to be counted present before reporting to their scheduled TTC course or ECHS class.

Students are NOT permitted to use the vending machines or the TTC Mini Mart Cafe during class time or between classes. Lunch or professor-approved TTC breaks are the only times of the day that students are permitted to use the vending machines. ECHS students leaving the 2nd floor to go to the 1st floor are out of area/ off-limits.

Students, please note that violations of this rule will result in a disciplinary referral and/ or the confiscation of the items purchased.

Yearbook make-up photos and re-takes are scheduled for Nov. 11 for grades 9-12. (Note: Senior sessions will only include the formal yearbook shot.) If you have already taken your yearbook photo and would like a retake, please complete this form so that we can schedule accordingly.

The CCSD Board of Trustees will be hosting a series of engagement sessions around the county over the next two weeks to get feedback from all Charleston County residents in developing shared goals for students.

Please consider attending one of the in-person sessions, or share your feedback by completing this short survey.

Student ID badges are to be worn at all times while on campus. Students will be charged $1 for temporary IDs and $5 for replacement IDs.

An integral part of the ECHS mission is to better our community. With this in mind, all ECHS students are required to complete 10 hours of community service hours each year. These hours will be logged using the Student Action Plans and given a major assignment grade in AVID. Community service logs must be submitted by May 4, 2023.

The SC Department of Natural Resources is hosting a beach and river sweep event on September 17 across 12 clean-up sites. Students are encouraged to sign up for a location and supplies on the website.

Attention Juniors:

The Reverend Pinckney College Readiness Program application is now open and closes on October 4, 2022.

This program offers high school students in Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties tailored support and resources throughout the college application process to help them prepare for, research, evaluate and ultimately select which college is right for them. The anonymous donors who started the Reverend Pinckney Scholarship Program at Coastal Community Foundation established College Readiness as an 18-month prerequisite program to help ensure students’ success leading up to, during and after college. Those who complete the College Readiness Program are eligible to apply for the Reverend Pinckney Scholarship Program in the second semester of their senior years of high school.

The College Readiness Program works specifically with African-American students to help close the equity gaps in South Carolina schools.

Due to ECHS's program school status, using the Common App for college applications presents layers of difficulty. We request that you apply directly to institutions and refrain from using Common App so that we can ensure the proper delivery of materials and transcripts to schools you apply to.

Students should indicate in their Naviance account (accessible via Clever) when they submit college applications; Naviance is also the platform students use to request transcripts as well. This process will be discussed in AVID and school counselors will be available to assist students throughout this process.

The South Carolina Aquarium High School Intern Program is an opportunity to become a paid intern for 11th-grade students in the Charleston area. Each spring, students attend training classes to learn about animals, ocean science, career development and team-building skills. Ten students are then chosen to continue on as paid summer interns, working with marine educators and biologists throughout the summer. Students may participate in the High School Intern Program only once.

Geared towards STEM (Science & Engineering) focused students who are rising 9th-12th graders, this opportunity is a great way for students to get their foot in the door for future government work.
