Mrs. Hamby's Newsletter
August 9, 2018
Welcome
Welcome to Schofield! I am thrilled to be your child's kindergarten teacher this year!
About Mrs. Hamby
My name is Alison Hamby and this will be my 5th year teaching Kindergarten! I started my career at Schofield in 2014 after graduating from Missouri State University with my degree in Early Childhood Education. I grew up in Springfield and I am thankful to be part of the Republic team!
Outside of school I love spending time with my husband, family, and friends. My husband and I enjoy hiking, camping, and traveling. This summer we got to do all of these things in Iceland!
Class Dojo
I will be communicating with families through Class Dojo this year. It is a great, secure way for me to share pictures and videos with you about what we are doing here at school during the day. On class dojo I can post on the class "newsfeed" as well as send personal messages. Your child will also be creating an online portfolio of their work through Class Dojo this year.
Class Dojo is also a way for me to communicate to you about your child's behavior. I give "green" points for positive choices and "red" points for negative choices. This allows you to see how your child is behaving at school throughout the day. (I use a lot of green points! Red points are only when I have already given a warning about the behavior.)
I included the sign up code in your child's communication folder at open house. If you need another copy of your child's personal code, let me know!
Reminders
Make sure your child wears his or her name tag every morning for the first 2 weeks of school. This way we know how they get home at the end of the day.
If you pick up your child in car line, you must have the yellow sign with your child's name on it displayed on your dash. If you do not have this, we will need to have you pull into a parking spot and check your ID before your child may be dismissed with you. If you need another pick up paper (multiple cars) please let me know!
Please send a change of clothes with your student in a gallon size zip lock bag with their name on it. (shirt, shorts/pants, underwear, socks) From bathroom accidents to lunchroom accidents, we want to be prepared!
Please read everything in your child's blue folder every night, empty it, fill out anything that needs to be returned, and return the blue folder to school in your child's backpack every morning.
If your child rides the bus, please go over this information with them. https://www.republicschools.org/Page/1207
If you are picking up your student from school, please do not arrive more than 15 minutes before dismissal. See video:
Important Dates
Friday, August 17: Friday Early Release (every Friday school is dismissed at 2:30)
Lunch
Your child is welcome to bring a lunch from home or purchase lunch at school.
You can pay for lunch online at this link: https://www.republicschools.org/Page/326
Or you can send an envelope with your payment inside to school with your child in their blue communication folder. Please include your child's name, teacher's name, and amount on the outside of the sealed envelope.
If you are coming to eat lunch with your child and bringing lunch for them, please let me know so that I do not order another lunch for them from the cafeteria. Our lunchtime begins at 11:00, so it is helpful if you can arrive a few minute prior to sign in and be ready for your student when we enter the cafeteria.
Snack
I will send a copy of the August snack calendar on the first day of school.
Please send snack with your child or drop it off in the office by 1:45pm (12:00 on Friday) on your child's snack day. We love healthy snacks! Some great options are string cheese, apple sauce, fruit snacks, "cuties" (little oranges), cheeze-its, goldfish, etc. Individually wrapped is best! Drinks are not necessary, but if you would like to send a drink, please make sure it is individually wrapped (capri sun, etc.)
We celebrate birthdays during snack time, so on your child's birthday you are welcome to send in a "special" snack like cupcakes or cookies. Thank you!
