Nurse News - ***IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND REQUIRED CRITERIA***
I would like to take a moment to personally thank our Husmann families for being so flexible, understanding, and proactive regarding the new rules in place pertaining to isolating/quarantining. As a parent myself, I understand the inconvenience having to turn on a dime creates. Our families have been nothing but kind and gracious, and we thank you for that. Thank you so very much!!
Jenn Sauck
School Nurse, RN, BSN
*If your child stays / is sent home with any ONE or more symptoms, their siblings must also go/remain home (this includes if they are in middle and/or high school). The child with symptoms will have a 10 day isolation, while the siblings have a 14 day quarantine unless the criteria is met to return sooner.
***ONLY THE STUDENT WHO IS SYMPTOMATIC HAS TO BE CLEARED BY A DOCTOR OR NEGATIVE COVID TEST TO RETURN. ONCE THAT STUDENT IS CLEARED THEY (AND THEIR SIBLINGS) CAN ALL RETURN***
*If any other siblings become symptomatic during this time, please call the health office for further instruction.
* If you choose to have your child tested for COVID, a rapid test WILL NOT be accepted. It MUST be the RT-PCR test.
*If you take your child to the doctor for evaluation and a doctor’s note, the note MUST state that the doctor does not believe the illness to be COVID related. OR have a measurable/confirmed diagnosis such as “positive strep” or “positive influenza”. If this is the case, the normal criteria for return to school applies.
* You may not send your child(ren) back to school prior to the date provided by the health office until you provide written proof that the criteria has been met. This proof must be provided BEFORE your child(ren) enter the building, or you will be called to take them home.
Thank you for your understanding and support regarding our effort to keep everyone safe.

DISTRICT NEWS
10/28/20: District 47's Moving to Remote Learning
Dear parent or guardian:
Since we announced last Friday that we would remain in our current hybrid learning model, we have continued to monitor COVID-19 health metrics for our county and region, as well as the specific zip codes (60012, 60014, and 60156) of families living within District 47 boundaries. Unfortunately, the numbers for the county continue to remain above the threshold for hybrid learning and Region 9, which includes Lake and McHenry Counties, has had its third consecutive day with a positivity rate above 8 percent which could warrant additional mitigation measures by the state. As a result, we have decided to implement what the IDPH calls an “adaptive pause” on hybrid learning. Beginning Monday, November 2, District 47 will move to a remote learning model. For more information about what an adaptive pause means according to the IDPH, please refer to page 3 of the following document.
It has been important to our Board of Education to be able to provide families with a choice in learning model for their child(ren) throughout this pandemic. We are all in agreement that face-to-face teaching and learning is what’s best for our students and we are all disappointed to have to temporarily suspend in-person instruction. It is our hope that we’ll be able to resume our hybrid model for the second trimester. However, as we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our staff, students and families, an adaptive pause is what is currently appropriate.
As we prepare for the transition to remote learning on Monday, please see below for some important information.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kathy J. Hinz
Superintendent
How long will we be in an “adaptive pause” and remote learning?
Per MCDH guidelines, schools are advised to consider being in a learning model for at least 14 days before transitioning to the next phase of reopening. We will continue to monitor the metrics and keep the community informed as we progress through this period together.
What does this mean for students and families?
Remote learning will continue without change or disruption for those students currently in the remote learning model. Students in the in-person learning model will be expected to engage daily in remote instruction starting Monday (11/2) and teachers will be reaching out about this transition. The daily schedule (see below) will remain the same for both in-person and remote students and all students will stay with their current teacher(s).
- 8am-noon and 2pm-3pm for K-8 students
- AM/PM classes for Wehde
How will we get books/supplies from school?
Materials will be sent home with students attending in-person instruction on Fri., Oct. 30. Wehde families can drive up to the school to get supplies when picking up their student(s). Any additional distribution days will be communicated by the school. Families of students not in attendance on Friday will be able to contact the school to arrange an alternative date/time for picking up materials.
What if there are issues with my child’s Chromebook or iPad?
Tech support will be available at each school. Please check school websites for office hours.
How will food distribution be handled?
Due to the election on Tues., Nov. 3, food distribution will occur next week on Mon., Nov. 2 from 3pm to 6pm at Hannah Beardsley Middle School. If/when additional distribution dates/times and locations are determined, this will be communicated to all families.
Having Chromebook issues?
If you are having trouble with your Chromebook, here are some ideas that might help.
At this time you may also call the Husmann office at 815-356-3400, and we will provide a loaner Chromebook for you while our tech department repairs your Chromebook.
