AMSTI Math Training
The AMSTI Math program deepens teacher content knowledge in mathematics and pedagogy to produce student mastery of standards in the Alabama Course of Study: Mathematics. The vision includes students involved in rigorous and meaningful standards-based mathematical tasks so teachers can use student work samples and dialogue to assess and refine student thinking. AMSTI Math training will take place within the structure of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in order to create a seamless connection between the foundation training and follow-up support during the school year.
OGAP
OGAP is a systemic and intentional formative assessment system in mathematics grounded in the research on how students learn mathematics. Through extensive professional development, supported by tools and resources, teachers learn how to use formative assessments in their classrooms and analyze the resulting information about student thinking to guide instruction. OGAP is not a curriculum but is designed to be used with an existing curriculum on a regular basis. In addition to initial training, OGAP includes embedded Professional Learning Communities (PLC) during the school year.

Alabama Course of Study - Math Overview
Mastery of the standards enables students to build a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and understanding in mathematics. To ensure student success, effective implementation of the 2019 Alabama Course of Study: Mathematics requires local education agencies to develop local curriculum guides utilizing the minimum required content of this document.
AMSTI Coaching Academy for K-5 School-based Math Coaches
The Alabama State Department of Education endorsed AMSTI to develop a Math Coaching Academy for all math coaches and their supervising administrators to attend. AMSTI-UNA math specialists will be facilitating this training on July 22, 23, 26, and 27. Coaches will attend all four days. Administrators are welcome to attend the first two days with their coaches but are required to attend the Administrator Academy on July 26 and 27 for a specifically designed administrator training. A secondary content piece will serve middle and/or high school coaches.
Region 1 AMSTI/ASIM-UNA Science Training
AMSTI Science emphasizes mastery of all standards addressed in the Alabama Course of Study: Science by deepening teacher content knowledge and improving pedagogical techniques. The vision for K-12 includes student participation in hands-on, activity-based lessons that guide them toward making sense of scientific phenomena. Through concrete, research-based methods of instruction and inquiry, teachers will facilitate student thinking by asking purposeful questions and providing formative feedback. Teachers will establish evidence-based targets for learning and success criteria. To support this vision, curricular resources have been selected and modified providing units of study to build the knowledge and skills needed for students to meet the performance expectations in the Alabama Course of Study: Science.
AMSTI Science in Motion (ASIM) is the High School Science component of AMSTI. The goals of Science in Motion are to provide high-tech laboratory experiences for students and effective professional development for teachers. In many instances, the cost of the equipment involved would be prohibitive for individual schools or even systems. Sharing this equipment through Science in Motion offers equally enriching opportunities to students from different backgrounds and schools
