Service Opportunity: Homeless Street Count
MORE THAN 400 VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED for the Sacramento Homeless Street Count! The Homeless Street Count helps our community better understand and serve our homeless population. Information collected from the night of the count is used to learn about the size of the homeless population, refine existing programs to better engage and serve this population, develop new programs where gaps exist, and make policy decisions on homeless issues in Sacramento. The Event also provides funding for vital services, including federal funding for emergency shelter operations and transitional and permanent supportive housing projects.
The Homeless Street Count is scheduled for Wednesday, January 28 from 7pm to midnight and volunteers are needed throughout the month of January as well as on the night of the event.

Stories of Service: Christmas party in Juvenile Hall
"Serve Partnerships was invited to join our ministry partner Bridgeway Prison Ministry at Juvenile Hall for the annual Christmas Party - What an amazing time... We went to the Max Security unit with kids who were headed to prison when they turn 18. It rocked me to look at them and realize what their future could be. Dan Gamel, the ministry director told the young men that I (SPU) connected their families with KLOVE for Thanksgiving meals and it was so powerful to have a young man say "Thanks for helping my family." The young men thanked us profusely and many were childlike in their interactions. When the message was given they were asking questions and were very attentive. When the prayer was said, it seemed like the whole room was praying! A few times over my ministry career I have had the distinct impression that I was on Holy Ground. Tonight was one of them... "Lord, you know these young men's hearts, surround them and lead them to strength and maturity in You. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your pursuit of these broken hearts.
