ConVal High School Happenings - February 4, 2022
Message From Principal McKillop
I hope this email finds you warm and safe. What an exciting week on campus — in addition to the second week of semester 2 classes, there has been quite a bit going on!
ConVal Theatre Arts students have been working hard after school preparing for the production of Disney's Frozen:KIDS. More details about dates/times/ and how to order tickets can be found below.
I was fortunate to make three home games this week, including senior night for our wrestling team. They battled hard and it was a great evening of hard-fought matches. There is a story below you that captures the names of our seniors and provides an essence of the evening.
Our students have the opportunity this month to explore courses for the 2022-2023 school year by checking out the Electives Fair online. Please see more below on how to access the links for many exciting classes that may be of interest.
The portal is now open on PowerSchool for students and parents/guardians to view grades. Our District Director of School Counseling, Terri Drogue, sent out a memo earlier that includes reminders of how to access the portal. As of Monday, please feel free to reach out to our registrar, Ms. Kelli Garthe, at kgarthe@conval.edu if you have any questions.
Next week is National School Counseling Week! Our school counseling office staff does so much to help our students. We encourage students to pop in and say hello next week to their school counselor.
Due to the fact that we did not have school today, some of our athletic events have been moved. Please see the athletic updates below for these changes. One of them includes the Girl's senior basketball game, which will take place tomorrow, Saturday February 5th. JV will tip off at 11:00am and Varsity will begin at 12:30pm. I look forward to attending the games tomorrow.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Heather

Electives Fair Online
ConVal Regional High School students have the opportunity this month to explore courses for the 2022-2023 school year by checking out the Electives Fair online.
By clicking on short video presentations and .pdf guides, students can search the palette of options offered by the following departments: English, Health & Wellness, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Visual & Performing Arts, and World Languages. In addition, the Region 14 Applied Technology Center has a whole host of Career and Technical Education (CTE) course options available, from Business to Video. For details, please see the web post here.
Students Learn About 2022-2023 Course Selections
Juniors, sophomores, and freshmen met with school counselors Rebecca Dunn, Rachel Berten, and Amanda Haley in the Lucy Hurlin Theatre this week to learn about the course selection process for the 2022-2023 school year.
After explaining the 26 credit requirements for each group of students in their respective graduating years, the school counselors reviewed the course selection process which will take place between now and mid-March. During this time, students and parents/guardians will have the opportunity to choose from the available course options.
Once a student’s proposed schedule has been entered in PowerSchool, it will be individually reviewed by school counselors, finalized and worked into a master schedule, which also has to consider incoming freshmen from Great Brook and South Meadow as well as students arriving from other schools. The students’ final schedules will be available in August.

NHS Students Hold Planning Meeting
It is an early Thursday morning and even before sunrise, the student members of the National Honor Society are already in deep discussions with each other in the ConVal High School Library Commons.
They confer with their advisors, Sara Longo and Amy Rushford, as to what the next weeks and months will bring in terms of community service projects, student and staff recognitions, as well as school spirit activities. After a large-group discussion, they break into smaller work teams to tackle individually assigned tasks.
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization dedicated to recognizing outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The mission of the ConVal chapter of NHS is to prepare students for leadership and lifelong success.
