KTS Newsletter
Term 2, Week 5, Tuesday 24th August 2021
How do you like our new look? We have been looking into a more device-friendly option for our school newsletter and have decided to trial the digital option provided by School App. It looks a little different but we hope it makes it easier for you to access. Any comments or feedback would be appreciated.
A warm welcome to Sam, who officially joined Room 11 on Monday.
We have been so impressed with how well our students have, yet again, adapted to learning from home. Thank you for supporting your children to be part of the ZOOM meetings with teachers – seeing their friends and classmates is important. Unfortunately it does seem that we are going to be supporting learning at home for a little while yet, as even at level 3 students are not back at school.
I do receive daily updates from the Ministry of Education and am expecting some clarity about level 3 in the next few days; I have heard this time may be different to previous level 3 requirements. I will certainly let you know when I know more.
We do know managing your own work requirements and supporting your children in their learning at home can be challenging – particularly for our younger students. Our teachers are taking note of who is completing some work and who is coming to the ZOOM sessions. Please let your child’s classroom teacher know of any difficulties so we can help if we can.
I have requested hard packs of learning resources for our Year 1 students and some for our students who require additional learning support. The MOE does prioritise lower decile schools so I am not sure if we will be able to get these packs. If we do, they will be delivered to homes by me, Catherine, or Erynn.
Some families in our community may be finding it difficult to access food and essential items such as medicine. This information about how to access to food or essential items summarises the supports that are available, including financial help to buy food.
Finally, please let us know what we can do to support you in any way. I would like to acknowledge our staff for how quickly they got programmes up and running last Wednesday. I am so appreciative of their efforts. Take care everyone and stay safe.
Alison
Devices
Thank you to those families who completed the request for devices to be delivered. I spent a couple of hours in my new role as a courier driver dropping these off.
Please let me know if you really do need a device. I can do another drop off later in the week if necessary. Please complete the form by clicking on the link HERE.
You may also want to consider purchasing your own chrome book. PB Tech have a couple of options which can be accessed by either clicking on this link www.pbtech.co.nz/education/byod/kohia-terrace-school or scan the QR code. There is a small discount - please type in KOHIA22.
Online Safety Tips
Family Zone, who we use for our screening at school, have put together this poster of safety tips. You may find these of use and a starting point for discussions with your children, particularly those in our older classes who are more independent in their device use.
