Note from the Principal
Good Evening Buena Vista Parents,
Read-A-Thon
Our WCEF Read-a-Thon is in full swing! So far we have raised $6,263.57 we are on our way to getting our Bulldog lunch dance party...$3,800 more and we are there! Dancing with the Bulldog at a lunch dance party!!!
So far we have logged 4,377 minutes of reading. I think we are doing more reading than we are logging in. Since I have a special love of reading I would love to see this numbers increase...as an extra incentive, if we can reach 25,000 minutes we can have a dress like your favorite superhero day! Do you think we can get there by Friday???? I know you can do it!
Our school goal is to read 100,000 minutes and raise $15,000.
WCEF is our district’s fundraising partner, providing additional funding for teacher and specialist salaries, academic programs, and additional classes not possible without gifts to WCEF.
There is an app to help facilitate this!! Pledgestar, which WCEF is using for the event, has an app to make it easy to track reading minutes and fundraise! You can customize your child’s appeal, translate it, have your gift matched, and more, To sign up visit https://pledgestar.com/wcef/or for more information visit wcefk12.org/readathon.”
Our school reading goal is 100,000 minutes! If we make this goal we will get a Spirit Dress Up Day--Hibernation Day--where students can wear their pajamas and bring their stuffies to school. In addition, we can earn school rewards for meeting our fundraising goals! When we hit $10,000 we will have an extended recess and Bulldog dance party! If we make our final goal $15,000 the top 5 earners get to TP the principal at the next assembly...wrap me up like a mummy!!!! I can't wait to see how our Bulldogs support the WCEF and our specialists by doing lots of reading and getting pledges from family and friends.
New Gates on School Lane
As some of you have may have already seen, we have our new gates up at the entrance to School Lane (The Kindergarten Circle). These gates will be open before school, but be locked once our late start kindergartners arrive. Then opened again at kindergarten release. Please note, anyone visiting our school in the middle of the school day should check in at the Main Office first and then proceed onto the school grounds. It is important to plan ahead to come through our main San Juan entrance. I know that this is a big change for our Buena Vista campus. Please be patient while we work together to ensure we have a safe and welcoming environment for or students and staff.
Nut Allergy Awareness
At the beginning of the year, your classroom teacher included information regarding whether there were any students with nut allergies in your child's classroom. We ask that if you do have a classmate with a nut allergy that you do your best to refrain from sending nut food items to school. We also realize that some students can be picky eaters and that it may be difficult to omit nuts altogether. If you do opt to send a nut item to school for lunch we have a designated area in the lunch room where child can eat and enjoy the food item away from classmates who may have an extreme sensitivity. We appreciate you support in helping us keep all of our students safe.
Kona Shaved Ice Truck-Support 5th grade Camp
Thank you to all of you that were able to come out to our Chipotle fundraiser. Thanks to our awesome BV community, we were able to raise $650 towards 5th Grade camp! Our next fundraiser will be on Friday September 30th. The Kona Shaved Ice Truck will be visiting Buena Vista and donating 20% of all sales to our 5th Grade Camp fund. They will be parked on San Juan from 2:30-3:30 for all to enjoy as a Friday Treat!

Teams meet once a week over the next 4-5 months to prepare and then perform their solution at the annual Odyssey of the Mind Regional Tournament. on Saturday February 25th, 2022.
If you may be interested, please come to the informational meeting Thursday, September 22nd from 5:15-5:45 PM on Zoom.
