Community Update August 15th, 2021
We are SO excited to start the beginning of a new school year. For some, this will be your first time coming to school. For others, you may be returning from virtual instruction. For the rest, you are coming back from summer. No matter how you are starting this school year, we are here to provide your child the best educational experience that we can provide. The Maryland team is here to provide you with support, safety, and an enriching educational program. COVID-19 unfortunately has not gone away, and we do have to follow many health and safety guidelines. Please read this newsletter in detail to get some information. Please do not hesitate to contact our office should you need any help. We are here to support you.
Dear Mako Families,
Para español, haga clic en el boletín de noticias y en el botón traducir en la parte superior derecha.
This Wednesday, August 18th is the first day of school! Please see the information below.
Although we love inviting parents into our school, we want to reduce the possibility of illness or quarantine for students. Parents/volunteers are not permitted on campus at this time.
On the first day of school, parents will say goodbye at the gate.
Hello Mako Families,
Per current county and state guidelines, all staff members and students are required to wear a mask indoors while in the presence of others, regardless of vaccination status. Masks are not required outdoors and are optional.
Please send your child to school with a clean face mask each day. Disposable masks will be provided to students in the event that one was forgotten or damaged.
Quarantines and Contact Tracing
Quarantines and contact tracing continue this year. Children with symptoms may be required to quarantine and positive cases may require class quarantines and pivots to virtual learning. Please be prepared for class quarantines and pivoting to virtual. You can prepare by having an emergency childcare plan. Do not send your child to school sick and if anyone in the family is positive for COVID-19 please inform our office. Please see the detailed new decision tree we will follow HERE.
Parents on Campus and Volunteers/Say Good Bye at the Gate
Parents/volunteers are not permitted on campus at this time. Although we love inviting parents into our school, we want to reduce the possibility of illness or quarantine for students. On the first day of school, parents will say goodbye at the gate. Back to school night and other events will be virtual.
Currently, there are no social distancing requirements in schools. Students will be able to sit in normal classroom configurations and no shields are required. However, classes will not mix.
Students may share materials, including playground equipment, without sanitization or cleaning. Hand washing routines will continue, especially before eating or playing. Cleaning protocols will continue.
All drinking fountains are still inoperable and students should bring their own water bottles to school and use the water filling stations.
Students can be dropped off between 7:30am-8:00am. Students cannot be dropped off before 7:30, as there is no supervision. School starts promptly at 8:00 and it is important for your child to start on time.
Masks are required indoors at all K-12 schools in California. Students are not required to wear their masks outdoors, but may choose to wear them outside.
We are happy to provide breakfast to all students and second chance breakfast at recess.
Students can enter the campus from one entry point. See the map below. Students enter campus and go to the designated waiting area on the blacktop and/or get breakfast.
TK/Kindergarten Students and Siblings
TK/Kindergarten students and siblings can be picked up from the bus loop. Please do not block the exit of the bus loop!
