Hello Mountlake Terrace Elementary Community,
This year has been one that we never expected; global pandemic, online learning, and racial unrest all marked this year to be one full of pain, struggle and strife. What I have witnessed in our community this fall/winter has me believing we are ending our year with community, selflessness, resilience and even some joy.
The 2020-2021 School Year has been one where I have seen staff at MTE step up and be willing to try new things, step outside the box, step up when needed and show up for students and families. It has been a year where I have seen parents supporting one another, gathering resources, striving to keep kids connected, supporting their children and partnering with our staff. It has been a year where our community as a whole has stepped in to support families with food banks/food, generous donations, art supplies, and supplies for families in need.
I want to take a moment to thank you all;
- The students for showing up and working hard
- The teachers for being flexible and finding ways to connect with and engage students during remote learning
- The paraeducators for stepping in whenever and wherever there has been a need
- The office staff and student support team for working to keep things running smoothly and making the needs of our families and staff your top priority
- The custodial staff for keeping our building sanitized and clean
- The food service staff for providing thousands of meals to our students and families
- The PTO for art supplies, support of our art and music programs, funding for online assemblies and spirit wear for all
- The general community for raising almost $13,000 to give MTE families in need a happy holiday season
- The Alderwood Terrace Rotary for supporting staff and families
- First Security Bank for generous holiday donations
- Washington Kids in Transition (Operation Warm) and The City of Mountlake Terrace (Foundation of ESD) for coats for kids that needed them
Thank you for showing me that out of these challenges we rise. That we are a cohesive and strong community even remotely. That there is hope. Thank you for who you all are and how you show up for each other. I am blessed to walk this journey with you and will continue to look to you all for input, partnership and hope. What an exceptional group of people you all are. I am better for having each and everyone of you in my life!
Have a wonderful Winter Break!
Yours in learning,
Mary Williams

Move 60! news and updates
The Choose to Move 60! fall session will wrap up on Jan. 29, 2021. We had over 1,700 students enrolled in the fall session which was awesome! We know that students that participate in exercise, physical activity, and movement focus better in school, sleep better, feel healthier, and have lower rates of depression. We encourage all K-6 students to register for the spring session. The program is FREE, online, and available to all elementary students! Here is a video from our Edmonds School District physical education teachers that you can share with families on the importance of physical activity: The Importance of PA
Move 60! Spring Session starts February 8. For information about registering for the spring session Move 60 Registration
