VEX ROBOTICS TOURNAMENT
On Saturday, November 19, Clinton Middle School hosted a Vex Robotics Tournament. The team, under the guidance of Crystal Pelkey, did remarkably well considering that this was their very first time participating in a competition.
The team called The Blazin' Operators was made up of Rylee Bell, Kennedy Luke, and Aaliyah Santiago. They finished tenth in qualifying and went to the semi-finals which is huge for your first competition. They also finished 18th in skills. At this time, they are number 30th in South Carolina in Skills.
The Domino's consisting of Liam Bell, Will Corley, James Messer, Nicole Boyter, and Jacob Keadle finished qualifying in number 20. In skills, they were eleventh. They made it to the quarter finals and are number 23 in skills in South Carolina.
Bob's Army consisting of Salaam Jenkins, Tristen Dickerson, Ethan Wargo, and James McGinnis finish qualifying number 21. They finished 21 in skills. They advanced to the quarterfinals where they were eliminated.
The 4 VRCs consisting of Kayleigh Lawson, Addy Derrick, Jayden Hatfield, and Brance Veal finished 26th in qualifying and 24th in skills. They are 35th in South Carolina in Skills.
Finally, the team Perfect Crime consisting of Brian Philips, Adrian Edwards, Logan Bertoniere, and Juan Cruz-Rios finished 18th in qualifying and 25th in Skills. They are number 36 in skills in South Carolina.
Nice work, Wildcats!
8th GRADE SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORY
Students in Mrs. Thomas' 8th grade history classes created timelines of events leading up to the American Revolution such as the Proclamation of 1763, the Stamp Act, and the Boston Massacre. They then selected a minimum of five events to describe in detail, displaying a relevant image and a short description that included who was involved, what happened, where it took place, and why each event was important. The students did a wonderful job with this project. Awesome work, Wildcats!
6th GRADE SCIENCE
Students in Mrs. McKinney's 6th grade science class recently completed and amazing project. Groups were assigned a topic to research and present to the class. The topics focused on how weather patterns and climate conditions such as global winds, the jet stream, and ocean currents affect the weather of the Earth. Awesome work, Wildcats!
WILDCAT ACADEMY FIELD TRIP
Last week, some students in our after school Wildcat Academy went on a field trip to Greenville. The Anime Club and the Photography Club dined at a noodle house and took pictures around the city. Fun was had by all!
7th GRADE SCIENCE
During their Chemistry Unit, students in Mrs. Thomas' classes studied elements and how elements are the simplest form of matter. Students were asked to create an "Element Advertisement" to demonstrate their understanding of how their element is used to create synthetic materials or how it might combine with other elements to create everyday objects that we use. As a result, students were able to determine many everyday objects, foods, vitamins, and other materials that are familiar to them. Elements are everywhere! Students with work on display at school are London Clark, Saliah Copeland, Taylor Davis, Lillianna Fountain, Bryce Glenn, Salaam Jenkins, Caleb Jones, Cade Lyda, Sa'Mari Mims, Arohi Patel, Aubree Tucker, Mary Jo Varn, Allie Wages, Ethan Wargo, Zoe Watson, Catherine Wilkie, Ben Wiggins and Rylee Williams. Fantastic job, Wildcats!
MORE AWESOME ART!!
Our amazing art teacher, Ms. Hellman, has been hard at work creating a website to showcase some of her student's fantastic artwork. The website is a type of digital portfolio of the classes and lessons she teaches. She plans to add new projects and images the year progresses. Click on the link to check out some of the AWESOME ART that our students have created.
Also, the first round pieces from her ceramics class is fresh out of the kiln! Here are some highlights from this batch. This was their first official project, "Rattles and Whistles"! These were made using pinch pots and most are glazed using colored underglaze and a clear on top. Great work, Wildcats!
NOMINATIONS for the CMS PAWS AWARDS
Each month, Clinton Middle School uses stakeholder feedback for our PAWS Award. This is given to any Clinton Middle School staff member who is recommended because of (1) their Positively contributing to our school, (2) their Affirmation of others, (3) their Willingness to go the extra mile, and (4) their Servant attitude. Recipients of the award are recognized by Clinton Middle School with a certificate and gift card! Those who nominate the monthly recipient are also given a prize! 8th GRADE ACTIVITIES
We are excited to offer 8th Grade Activities for students who successfully complete middle school in May. The events include a Promotion Ceremony (8th Grade Graduation), a Promotion Cookout, a Promotion Party/Dance, and an 8th Grade trip to Carowinds. At this point, all 8th graders are eligible to participate in all of these events, however they must maintain their eligibility by upholding behavior and academic standards that we outlined with all 8th graders yesterday. When 8th grade students violate our expectations, they are assigned points and as they earn points, they lose the privilege of participating in activities. Throughout the course of the year, students will accumulate points for disciplinary infractions. The consequences for accumulating points are outlined below:
20 points = Cannot go on the trip to Carowinds
25 points = Cannot go on the trip to Carowinds or attend the 8th Grade Party/Dance
30 points = Cannot go to Carowinds, or attend the Party/Dance and Cookout
35 points = Cannot attend any of the activities including the Promotion Ceremony
Please note the number of points student will receive for certain infractions:
- ISS = same points as the number of days
OSS = double points as the number of days
All other infractions are at the discretion of the Administrators
Any failing grade in any class on a report card = 5 points for each class
Hopefully, all of our students will be able to participate in all of these exciting events as we look forward to a successful year!

PHYSICAL ALTERCATIONS at SCHOOL
Fights and all other physical altercations pose a very serious threat to students and staff members. Maintaining a safe environment for everyone is our top priority. Effective immediately, any student involved in a fight or physical altercation will be suspended from school for a minimum of 10 days and will automatically be recommended for expulsion. Additionally, any student that instigates a fight or physical altercation will face the same consequence of 10 days of out of school suspension and will also be recommended for expulsion. Please keep in mind that students can receive these same consequences for making threats against others. All of this has been communicated to students repeatedly since the first day of school.
