Hobomock Elementary School
Weekly Update- June 7, 2019
Coffee with the Principal
Good Afternoon Hobomock Families,
I am excited to share with you the news about our new principal at Hobomock Elementary School. Michael Murphy will be joining our Hobomock staff on July 1. Mr. Murphy has been part of the administration at North Pembroke Elementary School for the past 7 years. Mike has worked tirelessly to help transform North Pembroke into the amazing school and community that it is. Before joining administration Mr. Murphy was the Assistant Director of Student Services here in Pembroke. Having had the opportunity to work closely with Mr. Murphy for the past several years, I am confident that his skill set and disposition is exactly what Hobomock needs.
Mr. Murphy will be at Hobomock on Friday, June 7th & Monday, June 10th to have a chance to meet staff, work with Mrs. Kay and Ms. Kelly as well as meet any families that are able to drop by. For parents able to drop in, we will host a coffee with the “new” principal from 12-1 on Friday, June 7th. In addition to June 7th, I have asked Mr. Murphy to identify a few days over the summer where he will be hosting coffee with the principal, those dates will be July 8 & 10. As these dates become closer we will send out a reminder to families with times and location. In addition to these formal opportunities, Mr. Murphy will be around all summer getting up to speed and prepping for the start of the school year, so if you are in the neighborhood, drop in any time.
If you are unable to stop in, but would still like to get in touch with Mr. Murphy, his email address is Michael.Murphy@pembrokek12.org
I also want to take a minute and thank Mrs. Kay for all she has done during her time at Hobomock to make it such a great place for students and staff. We wish her the best of luck on her future endeavor.
Again, please join me in both welcoming Mr. Murphy and thanking Mrs. Kay.
Sincerely,
Erin Obey
Superintendent
Summer Learning
Children who practice their reading and math skills during the summer months improve literary and academic performance, develop a love of reading and solving problems, and avoid the dreaded "summer slide". We believe that student and family choice, as well as a continued practice throughout the summer, provides students with a readiness to succeed in future academic work.
We are asking families to assist us by encouraging our students to practice reading and math throughout the summer. By setting aside a little bit of time each day to practice reading and math, your efforts will enable us to maintain the progress students made this year, and assist us in starting strong in September.
Please use this guide as a resource to partner with us and engage our students in reading and math throughout the summer break.

Thank you for a great year!
As the 2018-19 school year winds down, we hope that you will take a moment to share your kudos for PPS staff: bus drivers, custodians, nurses, maintenance staff, paraprofessionals, principals, teachers, and secretaries. Did anyone go the extra mile for you or your student? Maybe there's one person you can always count on for a friendly greeting. Do you know an unsung hero who deserves to be recognized?
Hearing your compliments will mean so much to our dedicated staff as we head into summer!
Please let us know who made your day... or week... or year! Your message will be shared with the staff member, their supervisor, the Superintendent, and School Committee.
