Mission Statement
St. Maria Goretti is a living testament to our Lord's work in His youngest disciples, exemplified by academic excellence, spiritual formation, and compassionate service to others.
Principal's Message
Dear SMG Families and Friends,
The countdown to summer is real--only 8 school days left for our PreK-7th Grade students, and only 3 (Thursday doesn't count) for our 8th Grade students! We have busy days ahead as we race to the finish--exams, 8th Grade Breakfast; Candle Lighting and Robing Ceremony; 8th Grade Graduation; Kindergarten Promotion, 1st-7th Grade Awards Ceremony, and Field Day next week.....and I'm sure I am forgetting something!
Although it is a hectic time of year, it is the time when I most realize how blessed we all are to be part of St. Maria Goretti Catholic School. Parents and teachers commit their time and energy every day toward creating an environment in which children thrive! We wish our 8th Grade students all the best as they leave the walls of SMG and journey to new places. Graduation is a time to celebrate and reflect on the impact a Catholic education has made on each student, and parents proudly see their children as graduates of St. Maria Goretti Catholic School who are:
- Believers formed in their Catholic Faith
- Reflective and creative thinkers
- Self-directed, responsible, life-long learners
- Future contributors to society who find meaning, dignity, and vocation in work
- Caring sons, daughters, brothers, and sisters
- Productive and responsible citizens
Congratulations to all our 8th Grade students and their families. Though you are moving on, you will always be part of the SMG family and know that you will always be in our thoughts and prayers!
St. Maria Goretti, Pray for Us!
Blessings,
Laura Behee, M.Ed.

End of Year School Celebration Picnic
Hot dogs, chips and good friends. That's a recipe we want to stir up again and again. SMG families gathered to enjoy good food and fellowship, while preparing for our 2019-2020 school year and Kountry Karnival. The Kountry Karnival T-Shirt, which the 8th grade helped create was also revealed. We are still looking for volunteers to chair the Kountry Karnival, as well as chairs for other positions (i.e. food chair, raffle chair, parking chair, kitchen chair. rental chair, etc.). If you are interested or able to help, please contact Mrs. Behee (lbehee@smgschool.org or 817-275-5081).
School Supplies for 2019-2020 School Year
Even though this school year is not quite over, it's not too early to purchase school supplies for the 2019-2020 school year. For your convenience, we are once again working with School Supplies Company to provide parents an alternative to having to go to various stores to shop for school supplies. Online ordering is open now through July 4th @ 11:59PM. After that time, no additional orders will be accepted. All orders will be delivered to the school in August in time for the first day of school.
Please visit http://www.schoolsuppliesco.com/; click on "Order Now" and select St. Maria Goretti and the correct grade level(s) for the 2019-2020 school year.

Fort Worth Science Museum Field Trip
First and second grade visited the Fort Worth Science Museum on Monday. Many thanks to our volunteers who helped chaperone this event. We appreciate you!
May Crowning
During the month of May we honor the Virgin Mary as "the Queen of May". The church and the faithful have accorded Mary, the Mother of God, a high degree of honor. She is celebrated in feasts and in devotions throughout the year. The May Crowning ceremony at St. Maria Goretti has been a devotion to Mary since the school began in 1954. Over the years, 8th grade students have had the honor of leading the school in this devotion and in crowning Mary with a crown of flowers. The May Crowning is a reminder of Mary's importance in the life of the Church and in our own lives as well.
Walk For Life
Because we believe in the power of prayer, this year's Walk for Life on May 16th was a school wide event. During religion classes, SMG students walked around the School/Church grounds and prayed the Life Rosary.
Baby Supply Donation Drive
In conjunction with our Walk for Life, Student Council held a donation drive for babies. Each grade level donated items to St. Therese of the Child Jesus Baby's World.
Caterpillar to Butterfly
Mrs. Hill's Pre-K class has been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. They witnessed God's work as three caterpillars become butterflies this week!
NJHS Service Project
Last Wednesday, some of the NJHS students went to the Arlington Animal Shelter for a service project. They met with Mrs. Patchett, the Animal Services Administrative Coordinator. She shared the history of the shelter and provided a tour. Then the students were encouraged to find one of the adoptable animals and create a flyer to hang in their kennel. Some of the animals did not have names yet, so they were able to name them. NJHS had a lot of fun and learned about the services provided to the citizens of Arlington.
1st Grade Detectives
First graders were "text feature" detectives this week as they learned how non-fiction books present information. During their rotations in the room, they located and identified text features such as a title, heading, caption, illustration, glossary, diagram and bold print.
Spanish Field Trip - Muy Bien!
Mrs. Zavala took the eighth grade students on a trip to La Plaza in "Mexico" where they tried some of the foods sold there: atole, pan dulce, fruta en vaso, gorditas, elote and aguas frescas. While there, they went behind the scenes at a tortilleria factory and made their own tortillas.
Pep Rally
The SMG Cheerleaders treated us to our last pep rally of the school year. First through fourth grade students who attended the April Tiny Trojans cheer camp performed a dance and cheer taught to them by the SMG cheerleaders. Mrs. Gutierrez announced the 4th through 8th grade essay and poster winners for the Walk for Life contest.
