A Note From the Principal
Salk Elementary Families:
Happy New Year! Welcome back to school. I hope you enjoyed your holiday break and had an opportunity to rest and recharge. I am confident that the new year will be a good one for the school community, students, and their families. I love the new year and the opportunity that January provides each of us some time to reflect on our lives and recommit to making changes and being better versions of ourselves. I challenge you to take a moment to speak with your children and challenge them. Research shows that setting a resolution can help get you closer to your goals. One such study found that 46 percent of individuals who made resolutions were successful compared to four percent who wanted to achieve a certain goal and considered it but did not actually create a resolution. As partners in education, lets use the new year as an excuse to push our students even farther and set a goal together. For example, spending a little more time every night on a subject your student might not be as confident in or my favorite a simple goal to read every day. This can be a great resolution as a family: sit down and spend 20 minutes reading together every night.
Go Seahawks,
Anthony Birkmeier
Upcoming Band Concert
Our first full elementary band concert is scheduled for Wednesday, January 25th at 7:00 P.M in the Fraser High School gym. Students must be in the gym with their equipment set up by 6:30 P.M. for a group warm-up before the concert.
For attire, please have your students wear a white top, black bottoms, and black shoes. Prior to the concert, please make sure your student has everything they need: instrument, book, stand, new reeds, etc. so that rehearsals can go smoothly.
Reach out to our elementary band teacher, Ms. DeSchutter, with any questions.
January is School Board Appreciation Month
The staff and students of SalkElementary would like to thank the Fraser School Board for all their time and efforts to ensure all of our students receive the best education possible.

Student Drop Off Reminders
Safety is a top priority at Salk and we can all use these important reminders from time to time.
Parents dropping their children off every morning may utilize the drop off loop at our main entrance. Please do not park in the loop. If you need to park in order to help your child into school, please find a spot in the parking lot.
PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF IN THE BUS LOOP. This area is designated for buses and can be a dangerous place to drop off your student.
Please refrain from parking anywhere other than designated parking spaces, this includes, parking in handicapped parking spots unless your handicap parking pass is properly displayed.
We continue to have a good relationship with our neighbors at St. Ronald’s Church. They graciously allow us to use their parking lot. Please use designated parking spots there as well and refrain from parking in the main driving lane leading behind the church.
Thank you for your support in keeping our Seahawks safe in our parking lots.

Ready or Not - Cold Weather is Here!
We're starting to see MANY students bundled up each day, which is great! Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather each day. Students will start needing warm coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and/or boots daily throughout the winter.
Please take time to label each and every item- because our lost and found gets bombarded with lost winter accessories throughout the season.
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10 degrees or warmer.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons.
