Dear Families,

Thank you to our families who helped prepare and run a successful Harvest Carnival last week. It was wonderful to have parents back on campus and see our kids enjoy our carnival tradition. Please see below for information about World Kindness Day and how our school will promote kindness next week.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Survey: 3rd-8th Grades

All students in grades 3, 4, 5 will take an SEL Survey in November. The results of this survey help us to monitor the effectiveness of our Second Step SEL program and guide our Positive Behavior Interven Support (PBIS). This data will help us examine whether students perceive they are developing their core SEL competencies. Survey questions ask for information about developing a growth mindset, goal setting, emotion management, kindness and empathy, and problem solving. The survey has 20 questions and will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes of class time.

World Kindness Day

Next week our students will be focusing on kindness. We will learn how we can be kind in class, on the playground, in the hallways, and at home. Caught being kind tickets will be distributed randomly by staff as we witness students showing acts of kindness. We will finish the week by decorating classroom doors throughout our school with kindness messages.

Vaccination Options for 5-11 Year Olds

We know that parents are eager to protect their children from COVID-19. We also know that some families still have questions about the vaccines’ efficacy and safety. The San Mateo County Office of Education has created flyers in English and Spanish that share some of the reasons for youth to get vaccinated. To further help inform parents and answer their questions, SMCOE hosted a webinar with San Mateo County Health addressing the latest COVID-19 community trends, strategies for safe schools, and vaccination updates.

The San Mateo County Office of Education is partnering with San Mateo County Health and local school districts to hold vaccination clinics across the county. These clinics are just one of many options for vaccinating children. Other options include healthcare providers, pharmacies, and other county and community clinics. SMCH will be posting these options on its website.

PTA Fundraising Thank You!

Thank you to families who participated in our dining out fundraiser.

Emotion Management & Mindfulness

Emotion Management is learning how to identify our emotions and find strategies to handle these different emotions.

Mindfulness is about paying attention in a particular way-where we listen and notice what is happening with an open heart and mind.
