Happy Last Friday of September!

I can’t believe how quickly the school year is moving. This has been an incredible week at Hawkins. Hawkins staff has been working hard! We met this week to talk about ways to get students more involved and in leadership roles. These are things we did before Covid and we are excited to bring them back!

The Color Run was absolutely incredible, I have never seen so many people here. I apologize for running out of hot dogs. Last year we bought less and had a hundred left over that we sent home with people. We will definitely do better with that next year. Everything else about the night was incredible. Thanks to our AMAZING PTO for the planning and execution, as well as the huge number of volunteers. It was just incredible and made me extremely proud.

Our next big event is our Trunk or Treat (flier below), and I am expecting the same kind of turn out. To help us be prepared we are accepting donations of bags of candy, they can be sent into the office. The assembly for the Color Run will be held outside on Friday, October 7th, at 3:15. At the assembly, I will be getting silly stringed while wearing my Michigan State Green, as well as other teachers' surprises. Looking ahead to Halloween, we will follow the same plan as last year, as it went so well, and parents, staff and students really liked it. Students can wear black and orange to school on Friday, October 28th. Classrooms will also be having individual parties. Your child’s teacher will provide details as it gets closer. Then, during the evening of the 28th we will have our Trunk or Treat event in the Hawkins parking lot. Students are invited to wear their Halloween costumes. More details will be available soon. Drop off and pick up are going well, and Officer Roy has been an amazing addition to our staff at the front door. Enjoy the weekend, enjoy family, and as always Go Blue!

Brighton Area Schools reserves the right to "approve" or "deny" any volunteer service upon review of the background check returned. The determination will be based upon individual fitness to have responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of children. Providing false information is grounds for immediate volunteer denial.

Parent Connect

Parent Connect a web-based application that allow parents/guardians to view information for your child's current school year. Logging into Parent Connect will enable you to see your child's placement (date to be determined), report card, and lunch account. In addition, parents/guardians can add or change emergency contacts. Parent Connect and MISTAR FAQ

*New Parent Connect Feature*

A new feature in Parent Connect will allow you to enter your student’s absence. Simply log into parent connect and click on the link Report Absence. The Report Absence link will open a screen for you to complete. If you have more than one student check the name of the student for whom an absence is being submitted. Add the applicable dates. If you check the All Day flag attendance will be submitted for the am and pm periods. If you do not check the All Day flag times must be entered and attendance will be submitted for whichever periods meet during the time range (based on period schedule).

Reporting an Absence

If your child is going to be absent, please call the Hawkins attendance Line (810-299-3900 then press 2). Please state your child's name, teacher, date of absence and reason for the absence (type of illness, doctor appointment, vacation etc). If your child has been diagnosed with a specific ailment (COVID19, strep throat, pink eye, influenza, chicken pox) please state that in the voicemail message. If your child has not been diagnosed with a specific ailment but is having specific symptoms please let us know the symptoms your child is experiencing. Hawkins appreciates your help!

BAS Student Health Webpage

At Brighton Area Schools, we are proud to serve our students, staff and community with a health team of nurses and medical assistants. All of our health team members are licensed or certified through The State of Michigan. In addition to providing first-aid and medical assistance to students and staff, we participate in health planning and health education for the district. We serve as a liaison between home, school and any personnel involved in student health and education to ensure an environment that is safe and conducive to learning. For the 22/23 school year, we are recommending ALL students, grades JK-4, have an extra set of clothes to keep in their backpack or locker in case of emergency (i.e. bathroom accidents, playground mishaps, lunchroom spills, ripped or torn clothes etc.) We appreciate your help!!!

If you need to change a contact phone number or email address you can do so through Parent. Connect at https://www.brightonk12.com/Page/144

If you do not know your Parent Connect login information, please follow the instructions on the Brighton Area Schools website.

PLEASE NOTE: Address changes CANNOT be completed through Parent Connect. Address changes must be completed by filling out a change of address form along with 3 copies of proof of residency. Details are listed on the change of address form which is available by clicking on the link below. Since in person drop off is not an option at this time, forms can be scanned and emailed to samanij@brightonk12.com
