What is a Diamante?
A diamante is a type of shape poem. The name comes from the Italian word for "diamond". This special kind of diamante is created around opposites, almost like a duel.
How do I write a diamante poem?
A diamante poem has 7 lines. The poem progresses from the subject at the top to a different and opposite subject at the bottom. The lines are structured in a specific way:
- One noun, capitalized (this is the FIRST subject of the poem).
- Two adjectives (that describe the FIRST subject).
- Three participles (these end in "-ing" and relate to the behaviour of the FIRST subject).
- Four nouns (the first two nouns have a connection to the FIRST subject, the second two nouns have a connection to the SECOND subject).
- Three participles (these end in "-ing" and relate to the behaviour of the SECOND subject).
- Two adjectives (that describe the SECOND subject).
- One noun, capitalized (this is the SECOND subject of the poem).
