HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 2 Week 3 May 17 2019
FROM MARK
Dear Parents/Guardians
We honour Mary, mother of Jesus as we journey through the month of May. To that end, every Thursday at about 8.20am Mr Winton leads us as we gather in the Veritas Garden (or the undercover area if the weather is not on side) to recite a decade of the Rosary together. You are always welcome to join us for this act of reverence on any Thursday.
Congratulations to the Five Catherine Class and their teacher Pat Winton, ably assisted by Mrs Kirwan – your assembly today was terrific! Thank you so much for this great start to Friday. Certainly it was something to celebrate!
Congratulations also to Holly Butson who has run a fabulous Book Fair this year. It was huge!! To our Library Monitors and our Parent helpers, thank you so much. Your support has been invaluable!
Next week see our Year Four Dominic class entertain us at assembly. We hope to see you there.
Have a great weekend.
Mark de Kluyver
Principal

SICK CHILDREN
Last Friday, 54 children were kept home from school because of bad bugs. These bugs make life miserable for children, staff, parents and guardians. Thank you very much to everyone who has kept children home and returned them when they are better. It is not always easy to do this, but it makes a big difference to them. They recover more quickly and reduce chances of stuff spreading. Information about 'gastro' in particular is found below. Note the 'quarantine' time before children are to return to school.
Training young children about the finer points of tissue use also helps. We encourage children to use tissues when required, and encourage them to wash their hands before they eat and after they have been to the bathroom`
Gastroenteritis
Gastroenteritis, or ‘gastro’ is a common condition in children of all ages. It occurs when the bowel is infected by a virus or bacteria. Symptoms include diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps and sometimes, fever. Gastroenteritis, or ‘gastro’ is a common condition in children of all ages. It occurs when the bowel is infected by a virus or bacteria. Symptoms include diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps and sometimes, fever.
Most cases in children are not serious, but it is very important to make sure that a child with gastro receives enough fluid.
If your child has gastro, keep them away from school for 48 hours after vomiting and diarrhoea have stopped. If symptoms persist see your family doctor.
The easiest way to prevent gastro is to make sure everyone in the family washes their hands regularly, especially before eating and after going to the toilet.

SPORTS NEWS
2019 CPSSA A DIVISION SWIMMING CARNIVAL
On Friday May 10th the Holy Rosary Interschool Swimming Squad competed in the A Division CPSSA Swimming Carnival at HBF Stadium. The team has been training hard since last term for the event and their hard work paid off with some fantastic performances on the day from the whole squad with everyone giving 100%.
Holy Rosary placed 5th overall with the boys squad finishing 2nd. We were all so proud of our team and given the size of our school this was a tremendous effort in A Division.
I would like to thank all of the parent helpers and staff for making this day a great success and our coach Ralph Mc Manis. The smiles that were on our teams faces all day showed that all your efforts are greatly appreciated.
SWIMMING RESULTS
2019 WINTER SPORTS CARNIVAL
On Thursday June 20, all Year 6 students will be competing in the CPSSA Winter Sports Carnival. Holy Rosary has entered 1 Football Team, 2 Soccer Teams and 2 Netball Teams in this competition. The day is designed to promote participation and fun rather than competition and as a result there are no winners on the day.
The students have selected their events this week and permission slips will go home on Thursday. I would really appreciate some parent helpers and parents to coach the various teams. If you are able to help out please contact me this week Robert.flexman@cewa.edu.au and we can work out some training times.
HOLY ROSARY CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL 2019
The Year 3 to 6 students will be involved in the Holy Rosary Cross Country Carnival on Monday June 10. The carnival will take place at Jackadder Reserve in Doubleview and will commence at approximately 9am.
The approximate timetable for the day is in the table below. The times below will vary on the day with the flow of the carnival and should be used as a rough guide only.
Cross Country Club and Running Club
With the Cross Country approaching we will be making some changes to our running training.
The Running Club with Sam Xanthis as coach will take a short break. This means this Friday afternoons session on May 17 will be the last running club for a while.
I would like to thank Sam for all her hard work with the Running Club up to this point. The students have loved each and every session with you.
Starting next week Mrs Catherall will take Cross Country Club on a Wednesday and Friday Morning from 7:45am until 8:15am.
This means the training dates will be.
