Hembree Highlights

Letter from Ms. Smith
Hey Parents and Families-
Week 2 - An eventful week for sure! I want to say thank you for your understanding and support as things don't always go as planned! Through the exceptional leadership from our Assistant Principal, Brandi Nichols, and our wonderful staff jumping into action all of our students were safe and dry within an hour!
Changes Based on Feedback:
Tardy/Late Arrival -
Our start time of learning is 7:40 am. Carpool will end at 7:35 am as we have been doing thus far. However, from 7:35-7:40, students will need to be walked to the doors, and they will be allowed to enter the building WITHOUT a parent signing in or doing a wellness check. Students will ONLY be marked tardy if they are not in their classroom ready to learn by 7:40 am.
This might mean that if you drop your student off at 7:39 am, and they do not make it to class by 7:40 am they will be marked tardy.
We will offer breakfast bars to all students from 7:35-8:00 am for students who arrive late. We don't want tardiness to keep students from eating breakfast.
Lunch/Cafe-
Due to the class size and space limitations in the classroom, it has been determined that eating in the cafeteria sitting physically distanced (spacing students out) is a better option than eating in the classroom. We have classrooms of almost 30 students that make eating in the classroom not a viable option.
The cafe is a larger space with higher ceiling that allows our students to truly be separated more than we can do in the classroom. Students will have to have a designated seat to ensure that we have accurate record keeping if contact tracing is needed.
Lastly, I want to invite you to our PTA virtual meeting on Thursday, August 26th. We will go through important business of PTA, but you will also get Q and A time with me. This was originally planned to be a Title 1 meeting as well, but Title 1 has to be a stand alone event. We will do that meeting: September 16th at 6:30 PM and September 19th at 2 PM. More information will be coming about those meetings, but I would encourage you to join us on Thursday. It will be a great way to learn about Hembree, volunteer opportunities, and more.
As usual, from one parent to the next, I want to remind you to make memories this weekend. Many of you will be bustling to ball fields, football games, and other sporting events. Roswell High School and Milton High School have home games on Friday, this might be a new adventure for your family to make memories. My kids love the park even when the heat is near boiling. No matter what you do, know that those sweet snuggles, belly laughs, and fun times are important! Go make memories because our teachers and staff love hearing all the wonderful things you do as a family each and every Monday morning!
Stay Strong! Stay Positive! Stay Well!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

Hembree Springs needs YOU! If you would like to donate some of your time this year, your help can make all the difference for our school and community! There will be plenty of opportunities to volunteer either inside our building, or at events and programs as part of a PTA committee.
Please keep in mind that in order to volunteer in the building, you will have to register with Fulton County Schools and do a safety training online. It really does not take long, but once your application is received, you must wait 24 hours for it to be processed. Even if you have completed the application in the past, you may still have to re-do it as it is required every two years. Here is the link: https://www.fultonschools.org/volunteer.
All volunteers will have to do a wellness check prior to entering the building by scanning the QR code at the front door. At this time no visitors are allowed in the building.
Our PTA has a number of volunteer committees that you can pick and choose from based on your skills and interests - Communications, Public Relations, Morale and Character, School Connections, Staff Support, Student Experience, and Business Partners. Please sign up through the following link where you will also find out what each committee is about: https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showSignUp/10c054fadad2faafd0-hembree1.
We thank you for considering volunteering for our school and hope to see you soon!
We are excited to announce another way to earn money for Hembree Springs! This year we will be doing the Coca Cola Give program. The details and FAQ on link below.
We will be doing drives to collect coke bottle tops throughout the year. Each bottle top (of coke or your favorite Coca Cola beverage) has a code that turns into money for Hembree Springs. We'll let you know when the drives are, but start collecting those bottle caps nowHembree Springs Elementary School
