November Newsletter
Notes from the Principal
We are looking forward to focusing on Gratitude this month! One way to think about Gratitude is “choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives.” Practicing Gratitude can increase our well-being and our happiness. Gratitude is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Well. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like emotion regulation, positive self-talk, and stress management.
November is a wonderful time to show gratitude to our Veterans. One way we, as a school, with show our gratitude is by raising money for Paw4Vets. We have a wonderful opportunity to support a local Navy Veteran, Mr. Shane Mahaffy and the training for his service dog Yeti. From November 8-15 students can bring in coins and dollars to put in their classroom collection bin at the beginning of each day. The class that raises the most money will get a special visit from Mr. Mahaffy and Yeti.
As I wrap up my message, I want to emphasize how grateful I am each and every day to serve as your child's principal. Our school community is top notch! We have such incredible families, students and staff that continue to make our school such a fabulous place to learn and grow. Thank you for all your support and open communication. Please reach out if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions.
Fondly,
Dana Croatt

Winter Weather Reminders
Now that winter weather is upon us, we thought we send a few reminders:
- Once there is snow on the ground, boots and snow pants are required to play in the snow or on the playground equipment. (It is not a bad idea to send an extra pair of socks in your child’s backpack in event their feet get wet.)
- There is outdoor recess on a daily basis unless the temperature / or wind chill combined is zero degrees or below. All students in grades Kindergarten – 5th, participate in a 30 minute recess at lunch and a 20 minute recess in the afternoon.
- If your child is well enough to be at school, they are well enough to go outside for recess.
- If there is a medical reason your child can not participate in outdoor recess, a note form your doctor is required.

PTA Updates
As we enter into November, we reflect on everything we have to be thankful for. We had another fun and successful Rocktober! Everything went off without a hitch! We are so thankful for all of our volunteers who help plan and execute this event. It is a huge undertaking, and we couldn't do it without you! We are also thankful for our families who attend our events. Events like Rocktober help raise funds that allow us to do all the other cool and important things we do throughout the year. Another big thank you goes to our principal and staff that support these huge events. Mrs. McConnell agreed to hold her Friday morning music classes in another room so we could set up the haunted room Thursday evening, Ms. Redies let us borrow her tug-of-war equipment so we could plan a game outside during Rocktober, Mrs. Sapinksi volunteered to face paint, Mrs. Stephan for help setting up Friday after school, the kitchen staff let us use the kitchen to make hot coca and Ms. Ritger, Mrs. Niehus, and Ms. Miller submitted cleverly decorated pumpkins for our staff pumpkin contest. Ms. Ritger won with her box of "Dunkin' Donuts"! We even had one of our very own Rockfield students, Opal P in 4th grade make balloon art! A special thank you to Dr. Croatt for attending every meeting and event that she's able to always with a smile and a willingness to help any way she can.
Our fall book fair was another huge success. We took in just over $8000 in total sales and were able to allow certified staff a $50 book grab allowance each. We also use our earned Scholastic dollars to buy reading material for the classroom and for our spring Readathon.
We are so grateful for all of the support PTA receives from all of our Rockfield community. We truly have the best students, staff and families.
