Updates from the Principal

Greetings Firebird Nation Families -

Welcome Back! I hope everyone had an awesome Spring Break! It is hard to believe that we are in the final quarter of the school year. This year has gone by very fast even with all of the different changes we have worked through.

As we return from break, remember that we will be back to many students attending 100% in-person at FMS each day of the week (if this is the option you chose for your student). Our counselors have worked to make schedule adjustments to maintain appropriate class sizes on each of our teams. We have also adjusted schedules so that all E-Learners are in classes together for the remainder of the year. It is possible that some of our teams will have this e-learning section as a hybrid section based on the numbers of in-person learners overall. We worked to try and keep students with their same teachers as much as possible so that they finish this year out strong.

We have included our Return to Learn plan in this newsletter for another review. We want to make sure students are familiar with these expectations, especially now that we are at 100%. All of these processes and procedures are in place to promote social distancing where possible and maintain a safe environment so that we can remain at 100% for the remainder of the year. We ask that all students review these items to re-familiarize with the expectations that are in place.

We have also included reminders about our traffic pattern. We know that our traffic is going to grow quite a bit now that all students will be on campus. We ask for everyone's patience as we work through this adjustment when we return next week. Deputy Murphy will be out assisting with the traffic flow as well to assist with this process. Please make sure to use extra caution and slower speeds as you travel around FMS. We also want to remind students to only cross streets and areas in the parking lots at our designated crosswalks. We have these in place for your safety.

In the coming weeks, be watching for additional information related to our traditional end of year events. We are hoping to bring back our 8th grade promotion ceremony and our NJHS ceremony this year. There are likely some adjustments we will need to make based on county requirements. We will work through these pieces to determine how to best host these events in a safe way for our students and families.

I look forward to the coming week and seeing all of our Firebirds back in the halls at FMS! Let's all work together, follow the expectations, and finish this 20-21 school year strong! Let's all RISE together as one Firebird Nation team!

Return to Learn Plan Reminders

Big picture
As we return to 100%, it is very important to remind students of our processes and procedures. These same procedures guided us through our 50% hybrid model, and they will still be in place as we have all students return. Please make sure to review these with your students.

  • Students will still be required to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth at all times when inside FMS. Teachers will work to incorporate mask breaks throughout the day so that students can go outside and remove their masks.
  • We encourage students to keep a back up mask in their backpack in case they lose their mask during the day.
  • If the weather is nice, we will plan to continue with lunches outside.
  • Remember that drinking fountains are still turned off, but the hydration stations are still in operation. We encourage students to bring a water bottle to use these stations throughout the day.
  • We encourage students to use the hand sanitizer stations throughout the building and to also wash their hands periodically.
  • We will also continue to encourage physical distancing practices, where possible, as a safety precaution.
  • Students will still keep their belongings with them at all times. We will not be able to assign lockers for the remainder of the year.
  • Students will still report to grade level areas before school and wait for the appropriate arrival bells to enter the building.
  • We will continue to dismiss students at different times for each grade level.
  • As students pass throughout the hallways during the day, please observe the yellow lines that divide the halls. We want for students to always walk on the right side of the hall to ensure appropriate physical distancing can take place.

ATTENTION STUDENTS NEW TO THE FMS BUILDING! There will be tours be held at the beginning of the morning to help you get familiar with the school and where your classes are located. Monday morning look for signs to direct you where the tours start. Can't wait to see you here at FMS!

Traffic Pattern Reminders

As we return to 100%, we know we will have quite a bit more traffic traveling to and from Falcon Middle Each day. Please review our video below with instructions on how our traffic pattern operates when using the lots at FMS.

We ask for everyone to please use slower speeds and additional caution as they travel around FMS each day. We want to keep everyone safe as they arrive and depart FMS each day.

We are making a slight adjustment to our dismissal configuration. You will notice that when you first enter our parking lot off of towner, that there will be an entrance designated for the parking area. Please do not block this entrance. The "double lane" will begin immediately after this entrance. We will have signs and security out front for the first few days to assist with this change.

Deputy Murphy will also be outside to assist with directly traffic as we get used to a full arrival and dismissal with all of our traffic. We ask for everyone's patience as we work through this adjustment.

One tip: All of our traffic in the afternoon is typically cleared out by 3:15. So, if you want to drive right in and pick up your student without all of the traffic, look to come to FMS around 3:15.

Updated CMAS Information

We recently received updated requirements from the state on what we need to do in preparation for CMAS Testing this year. You should have received a bulletin from us this past week. We will include a link to this information below. We must make sure that we have a response for EVERY student as to your intentions on whether you would like your student to participate or not. Please make sure to provide this information by March 31st. There is a button contained within the bulletin linked below to communicate these intentions.
