November Notes - Senior Edition
November 1st, 2023
Has Your Child Completed These Tasks?
Mrs. Capshaw met with seniors back in August and early September to go over important items for this school year. She tasked them with doing the following:
1) Completing and turning in the Senior Profile.
- Since my last newsletter, we had 8 more seniors turn in their profiles, so we are up to 28! These profiles help me to get to know the students and their accomplishments as well as their future plans after high school. I can direct resources such as scholarship information, college programs, employment opportunities, etc. to your child. Please ask your senior if he/has has turned in a completed profile to the guidance office.
2) Create a Parchment account so transcripts can be sent to colleges.
- 14 additional seniors created a Parchment account, raising the total to 34.
Scholarships
Additionally, you could also explore the various free scholarship websites to help offset the cost of college. Some of the most popular are: Going Merry, Fast Web, Scholarships.com, Scholly, and Collegeboard's Big Future Scholarships.
College Exploration
The season for colleges visiting high schools is winding down, but hopefully your child took some time to visit the various college admission reps when they were here. Some colleges will schedule a spring visit as well, so we will publish a new schedule of visits sometime in the March or April.
Also, don't forget that students get 4 excused absences for college visits. Take advantage of these opportunities to explore college campuses in person. Most colleges have a place to schedule a visit on their website or you could always take a virtual tour if you can't make it in person.
College Applications
October was an extremely busy month for our seniors as several of them finished their college applications. I processed 113 transcript requests through Parchment, so I am excited to see where our students end up.
If your student needs help in filling out an application or figuring out what they might want to do after school, encourage them to come and talk to a counselor. That is what we are here for!
We are excited to announce that Tipton County will be holding a Career Fair on November 10th from 8:30am - 1pm. Tipton High School will be transporting juniors and seniors to the 4-H building during their advisories to attend the Career Fair. We currently have over 40 businesses that will be presenting information about their specific company. Several companies are looking to hire part-time and full-time employees so students will also be able to apply for certain jobs while there.
PSAT Day
On October 12th, our freshmen, sophomores, and juniors took the PSAT while our seniors participated in one of the following activities: college visit to IUK, community service, or a college visit on their own.
