Monday Mashup
Eyer Middle School - March 16th, 2015
The Eyer Middle School "Monday Mashup" is a weekly digital newsletter featuring a collection of articles, posts, blogs, videos, tweets, and quotes shared by administrators and teachers at Eyer. This collection of resources is shared in hopes you find something interesting and relevant you would like to use or apply. Reading it is completely optional.
This week's theme is "Brains and Blogging." We hope you take away information about the inner workings of student brains and ideas about writing across all content areas.
If you would like to contribute to the Monday Mashup, please email what you would like to share, to Mike or Erin by Thursday at 3pm.

What We're Reading
The Signal and the Noise, by Nate Silver
Nate Silver is a master at crunching numbers and evaluating data. His www.fivethirtyeight.com blog/webpage became famous during the 2008 presidential election when it applied baseball sabermetrics methodology to polling data. Since then, it has been a "go-to" site for all data geeks (myself included). In his book, "The Signal and the Noise", Silver explores topics from real estate to the stock market to terrorism to baseball, and shows the ability, but more importantly, the limits of "BIG DATA". He goes into great specifics to explain how many times, despite having so much data, we still get it wrong. - Mike Kelly
Creative Confidence, by Tom Kelley and David Kelly
Some assume that creativity and innovation are characteristics an individual is born with. In their book, Creative Confidence, Tom and David Kelley share the importance of fostering our innovative nature. The Kelley brothers are the powerhouses behind IDEO - a company focused on helping others innovate. As educators, the content of this text is especially relevant. Regardless of content area, our lessons and assignments can be designed to tap into our students' creativity. - Erin Murphy
Australian Themed Book Club
This weekend I hosted my first book club. We read "The Husband's Secret", which takes place in Australia. We had fun chatting about the book and each brought an Aussie inspired item to share. Now we are looking for a new book to read. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Please note, this is not a book recommendation. I would rate the book a "meh" on the book entertainment scale. - Erin Murphy
