New Online Attendance Form

Using the form ensures that the school has all the information we need, instead of it possibly getting lost in emails. Make sure to fill out all the needed information. Click here to go to the new form:
Family Engagement
Our school-based mental health and health professionals stand ready to support students and families as we continue to navigate world events that impact many in different ways. The American School Counselor Association provides resources to serve as a guide to facilitate conversations around the sensitive topics related to world crises which can evoke intense emotions. Children process such information in a variety of ways and there is no “right” or “wrong” when navigating our feelings and thoughts. Do not hesitate to reach out to your student’s assigned school counselor if you feel that their reaction to world crisis and violence is impacting learning.

Chocolate Milk is Back
Chocolate milk was removed from the elementary school lunch menu this school year in anticipation of new regulations proposed by the USDA that limit added sugars in school lunches. PWCS has received considerable feedback from students and families with requests to continue offering chocolate milk with school lunch. Throughout the week of October 16, elementary school students can select chocolate milk with their school lunch. It will also be available for a la carte purchase.
Fall Food Drive, You Still Have Time to Help!
Northern Virginia Family Service is hosting their annual Fall Food Drive (formerly Operation Turkey) to help stock the shelves at their Hunger Resource Center (HRC) in Manassas in preparation for the holiday season, which benefits families across Prince William County. Food collections will be picked up at our school by PWCS Supply Services on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
The food collected through this drive will be distributed to clients at SERVE’s Hunger Resource Center. SERVE Campus works year-round in Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park to help individuals and families find new paths to self-reliance and brighter futures. They do this through distribution of food, emergency utility assistance, counseling, shelter, and other basic needs. SERVE depends on the participation of the community to deliver these programs and services. There has been a 26% increase in clients this year at the Hunger Resource Center since emergency SNAP benefits have ended. This food drive is critical in ensuring that their shelves are stocked so they can continue to provide regular assistance to their clients.

Cafe Corner October 2023
Virginia Farm to School at PWCS
October is National Farm to School Month and October 2nd-6th is Virginia Farm to School Week! What better way to celebrate local produce than by eating school lunch?! Did you know your school cafeteria serves seasonal Virginia produce all year long? Incorporating local products into our menus gives students the opportunity to enjoy nutritious, fresh fruits and vegetables, while learning about the seasonality of foods and how foods are grown. These products support local farms and are a tasty way to improve the health of our children!
Every month, PWCS Nutrition features a different Virginia-grown fruit or vegetable as the Local Harvest of the Month! Last year, PWCS Nutrition hosted a Harvest of the Month Poster Art Contest! Winning artwork from this contest were turned into posters that are displayed in all PWCS schools this year! Winning students and designs are announced the first Thursday of every month at @PWCSNutrition on Twitter and Instagram! Look for these new posters at your school! Below is an example of one of the winning HOM Posters!

Quick Reference
We support our Military Kids
Impact Aid is a federal education program that reimburses school districts for lost revenue and additional costs due to the presence of nontaxable federal property (such as military installations, national parks, federal office buildings, and Veterans Affairs hospitals) in a community.
Impact Aid, like revenue generated by taxes, can be used for any general fund purpose, such as instructional materials, teacher salaries, transportation, technology, social-emotional support, and facility improvements. Decisions on how Impact Aid funds are spent are made by school district leaders which provides the flexibility needed to ensure funds are targeted to meet the greatest needs.
Additional information: Impact Aid webpage.
The Impact Aid survey is now open and available for completion in ParentVUE. All parents should complete this survey as soon as possible. Please visit the PWCS Federal Impact Aid website for instructions on how to complete the survey. For assistance with your ParentVUE account, please contact the school.
Reminder: When students should be absent due to illness?
- Fever of 100ºF and over - Student must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicines. This helps to ensure the fever is truly gone. It is important that students are not premedicated before school to mask a fever. Children need rest to recover from illness. Without enough rest, it can take your child longer to feel better.
- Colds - a child with thick or constant nasal discharge, severe coughing or difficulty breathing should remain home.
- Diarrhea or vomiting - exclude until the student has been symptom-free for at least 24 hours.
- Conjunctivitis (pink eye), strep infections, ringworm, and impetigo are all infections and must be treated with medication for a minimum of 24 hours before returning to school. Please do not allow affected students back before this time so that other students are not infected unnecessarily.
Refer to the Virginia Department of Health Communicable Disease Reference Chart for School Personnel (PDF) for other exclusions/information.
School Status
PWCS staff members utilize School Status as the primary way to communicate with families. You will see this image at the bottom of email communications. We are learning that these messages may be going to 'junk mail' for many of our families. Please check your 'junk mail' folder for these message. Additionally, we are able to make phone calls using School Status which will appear to come from a new phone number (area code may be 804). Thank you for your patience as we familiarize ourselves with this new system.
Visitors and Volunteers
Tyler is excited to welcome our visitors and volunteers! Please, don't forget that all visitors and volunteers must present a photo ID and be checked into our RAPTOR system upon arrival. Please be patient while we make sure all requirements are met before we let you in. Remember, We try our best to keep our children safe!

Celebrations
We want every student to feel celebrated on their special day. As a regular part of our morning announcements, birthdays are announced. Students are invited to come to the office for their birthday pencil. This has become a popular tradition at Tyler that we look forward to continuing. We understand that families may also want to do something special for their child's birthday.
Open Special Day Certificate for more information on student birthday celebrations.
*Birthday party invitations are NOT permitted to be passed out at school. Thank you for helping us to keep the focus on learning.
