Rugby League State Carnival

Our Junior and Senior Rugby League teams competed in the state all schools carnival earlier this week. Both teams did us proud, working well together and demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship. They were fantastic ambassadors to our school and to the game. Both teams made it into the finals undefeated, our Junior team just missed out on the final in a hard fought semi. They are now ranked in the top four in the state. Our Senior team made it into the final and were runners up in their division.

This is a huge achievement and we need to thank Mr Murphy for his hard work each week training the teams. Thanks also go to Mr Heinecke, Dave Cain, Chris Hicks and Paul Newman for their support on the day.

Science Fun Day

As a part of our Education Week celebrations this week, all students participated in a Science Fun Day. From robots to rockets, volcanoes and hovercrafts, the students got to explore a huge range of scientific concepts while having fun.

Athletics Carnival

Last week's school athletics carnival was a huge success. As usual, our students participated in as many events as was possible and they worked hard to achieve their personal best. The day could not have gone ahead without the help of the parent volunteers. Thank you to all of the volunteers for all of your hard work that helped to make the day such a success for our students. Thanks also go to Mr Murphy for his coordination of the event.

We wish all of our school representatives the best of luck in the Zone Carnival. Permission notes for day 1 of the carnival have been distributed to all those participating.

Dream Banksmeadow

We have had a number of parents register their interest in joining a team to help run an inquiry that will inform the school plan for 2015-2017 and help us to set goals for the future.

If any extra parents are interested in joining this team, please send Mr Heinecke an email as soon as possible, benjamin.heinecke@det.nsw.edu.au

Southpoint Community Rewards

ACTIVOOSH has registered with Southpoint Shopping Centre for their Community Rewards Program. Any time you make a purchase at Southpoint, you simply need to place your receipts in the barrel labelled Banksmeadow ACTIVOOSH. The whole school community gains if we win any amount of money so we are encouraging all students, parents, families and friends to support us.

The promotion is open now and it closes on 23 September.

PSSA Sport

Our participation in PSSA sport requires us to transport the students to and from various fields each week by bus. The school subsidies the cost of the bus to try and keep the cost per student down. It would be appreciated if the weekly or terms bus fee is paid to the office or online. If you do not wish your child to participate in PSSA sport please notify the class teacher in writing and they can take part in school sport.

Friendly Schools Plus Project

A reminder, all students in Years 3 and 4 have been invited to participate in a research project with Macquarie University's Centre for Emotional Health. Consent forms are due back to your child's class teacher by Friday 8 August. Alternatively, consent can be registered through the link below.

For more information on the project, you can follow the link to the Centre for Emotional Health's website below.

Dance Fever

Dance Fever lessons are held each Monday for classes Kindergarten to Year 6. The cost for the term is $32. We have found the children really enjoy the program and are keen to be part of the Dance Competition at the State Sports Centre at the end of the term. If you do not wish your child to participate in Dance Fever lessons could you please let their class teacher know in writing. Alternative arrangements will be made for students not participating. If you are experiencing difficulties paying for the program please contact the principal.

Band News

The proposed combined band practice for next Wednesday has been postponed. Thank you to the parents who offered to drive. We will be rescheduling a rehearsal with Gardener's Road Public School closer to the Big Band bash event.

A reminder that band practice for all students is Tuesday mornings at 8am.

Dance News

All Junior and Senior dancers should return their dance costume to Mrs Bragg by the end of this week.
